Born in Liverpool but where and when did he die?

William Henry Dodge was born in Renshaw Street, Liverpool Aug.2, 1855 son of William and Mary. A 'sea mariner' he served on various ships but was living in Kenilworth Road, Wallasey in the 1891 census and 45 Buchanan Road, Poulton cum Seacombe on the Electoral roll of 1900. And then nothing - lots of Henry William, but no William or William Henry that fit the bill. You have been so helpful in the past that I thought you might have some ideas this time round.
Thanks, Claire

I can't find a matching death index. With him being a seaman he could easily have gone abroad and not come back.

Yes - but why is it that one always hopes to have just a whisper of a clue? Appreciate your comments, thanks.

One tree on Ancestry was suggesting the 1914 Wandsworth death index could be a match but looking at census records this man was not born in Liverpool. I don't have a subscription to FMP but tried searching some of their databases. They have some death indexes that seamen sometimes turn up on but I couldn't see him on there.

Thanks - I have been through most of the Trees and other deaths - there is always something wrong; no doubt he will sail into view one of these days.
I have an Atherton in my tree, although no relation. John Henry Atherton 1878 - married to Isabel Rachel Jepson 1884 - 1965. Isabel was my great aunt.

I did try the Deaths at Sea but without success.
Never give up, one day a clue will be there that you didn't know about and lead to more, that's what happens in this hobby.

You are so right - or maybe he didn't die before he had a child which is always such fun on the rare occasions it happens!
Where are your Russell family from? Mine are from London

I'd almost forgotten about my Russells, a cousin's father and his grandfather was born 1846 in Scotland, Govan so the story goes although his birth/baptism has been a bit of a mystery, his father Andrew.

My Athertons descend from William Atherton, cordwainer and Mary Worswick who were married at St Nicholas CE Liverpool on 21 July 1811. I also have a Russell in my tree. Same name as the film star. Jane Russell who married Silvenus Willetts, gunsmith at St Paul's CE Liverpool on 12 August 1793. The Russell name was carried on in our family as a middle name.

There seem to have been a concentration of Russells around Liverpool, perhaps from Scotland? and also around London. In our family the name Russell has also been passed down as a middle or first name, including Russelle for my female cousin. Mary Ann Russell, born 1792 in Whitechapel Middlesex is my oldest Russell relative.
