My gt grandfather Thomas Corkhill Nicholas's married sister Lucy Neale is an inmate and noted as a lunatic on the census 1891 Joint Counties lunatic Asylum Rg12/4518....in one of the columns is Ret and I wondered if anyone knew what that might mean..the obvious to me was retired ??...I have a death for her in Camarthen age 69 1909.

I am unsure, although it would seem to infer retired, there are a number of younger people with this annotation too, and quite a lot if you scroll through the pages.

I think it is retired each of the patients with a job title has Ret next to it indicating that they are no longer in that employment.
