Are there any interment records for this church and where any remains from the crypt under this church transferred to the new Cathedral. Research seems to say the remains from the cemetery were cremated. Does anyone have better information.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

There are Burial Records for Our Lady & St Nicholas, which are held at the Liverpool Record Office, 3rd Floor William Brown Street Library, Liverpool, also a copy seem to be held at the Lancashire Record Office, Bow Lane in Preston. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Li ... olas.shtml

The Lancashire Parish Register Society have also transcribed many of the early records on CD which are for sale in our Society Shop.

I think the OP is referring to St Nicholas RC on Copperas Hill which was the Pro Temp RC Cathedral.nit was apparently behind the Adelphi Hotel on Hawke a Street.

I imagine their burial records will also be at Liverpool Record Office.

As far as I am aware St. Nicholas, Copperas Hill did not have a burial ground.

There was something from the BBC that mentioned there was a cemetery and the fact that when they were removing the remains they found an older cemetery under the one they excavated. I do appreciate all the replies, it is very helpful. Many thanks.

Word from our President Elect.

The burial registers which are in the Record Office go from 1813 to 1854 but when they removed the stones etc. they were inscribed by James Gibson. Volume 10 of Gibsons Epitaphs is an alphabetical list of all names extracted, Volume 9 contains the actual epitaphs from the gravestone if there were any.

We have never heard anything about removal of bodies but we can imagine how the tale has arisen as the crypt had to be dug up and the whole area was covered in cemeteries.

This has a small paragraph about the removal of bodies.
