James Coupe.

Post by margie »

James Coupe born c 1817 Whittingham Kirkham married Ann Duckett 1841 Chapel of St Wilfred Preston, think they had 3 children Thomas 1841. Alice 1845, Elizabeth 1848 (dates and names sent to me along time ago so cant verify the details) all born Crosby Claughton.

I can fined no reference to the family until;

1891 RG12 3018 95 when James is living with his nephew in St.Helens

1901 James RG13 3457 134.

James died 1901 St Joseph Home 4 Belmont Road and is buried Ford Cemetery Litherland.

Wife Ann died 1884 55 Boundry Lane Everton also buried Ford Cemetery.

Can anyone help please,
Thanks Margie.

Anna Wife M 26 Lancashire Billinge
George Son 5 " St Helens
William " 3 " "
Albert J " 1 " "

Can you confirm where "Crosby Claughton" is as there appears to be no trace on googlemaps of this place, nor a location listed in any census.

Thomas Coupe's birth was registered in the GarstangReg District in 1842. Claughton is within the reg district so I imagine mum went home to have the baby.

I can't see definites for the other 2 children.

Filled those gaps in nicely didn't we?

PS I have a feeling that Crosby isn't the one near Southport but there is one further north nearer Preston, fits well with the Garstang baptism.

Many of us use Ancestry but as we have given the references you would be able to find them using these on any subscription site that has them

Thanks Bert, for looking but this is a different family my James died in 1901, very confusing I know but the James on that MC was a farmer, I initially thought it was my family but not so.

I think you need to investigate some marriages as there is a possible Elizabeth A to Joseph Rawcliffe in 1882 at Preston, St Saviour with St James and she might just fit with an Elizabeth Rawcliffe living in 41 Atkinson Street, Preston age 40 and noted as married but husband not at home RG12; Piece: 3439; Folio: 43; Page: 23

Also one who married Henry R Wilson in Toxteth Park, St. James in 1886, and another who married in the same year to Joseph Henry Wearden in Preston Register Office.

It seems to be a case of discounting those that are incorrect.

The following can be discounted,

Elizabeth A Coup/Joseph Rawcliffe, Father, George Coup.

Elizabeth Alice Coupe/Henry R Wilson, Father, Samuel C Coupe
