Can anyone suggest how to trace a family named North, no first names known, who occupied a house near the village of Coniston, Lancs (now Cumbria) in the 1841 and '51 censuses, please? The nearest postal town was Ambleside, Westmorland, but other services may have been via Ulverston.
Thanks

Please can you post the 1841 and 1851 census entries? Or the name of the address or address.

Thanks, Hilary. I now have some names of occupants of the house I am interested in, for various dates, but nothing comes up for Coniston when I use that as the location.
1843/46: William Bradshaw (the Norths may have moved on by 1841)
1864: George Grave
1881: Benson Harrison

Thomas North is the only North that keeps popping up, here with a Liverpool connection.

Sorry for delayed reply, but what great results! Very many thanks for all your digging, which is a great help. The house evidently was renamed as Thurston, between 1892 and 1913 and is now an outdoor pursuits centre, about to celebrate 50 years in that role.
