Good work by both of you. It's tragic that children were split up when their families fell apart, what a lovely ending to this story.

All I can say is that when something like this happens it makes up for all the disappointments and dead-ends we often come up against in this addictive 'hobby' of ours.
I am pleased to have had a small part in reuniting John and Wally.

Hi Katie,
If you think we can help John in his continuing quest we'd be delighted to assist.

My apologies! What was I thinking? Probably that events were comparatively recent and might therefor be off-forum? Sorry...
Post amended!

According to Walter and Harolds records from Fazackerly Cottage homes both parents were recorded as being deceased in the 1950,s, but despite extensive searches of the death indexes I cannot find any death records for A Walter and Evelyn Arnold prior to 1950. John has given permission to use what information he has on his Parents in the hope that he can complete the jigsaw of his family. His mother was admitted to Belmont Road so that is the starting point for me to find out when she was discharged from there and where to We also think she may have changed her name. THe last sighting of Walter according to the records was in the 1940s in Grimsby. I will get back with more accurate dates.

Wondering..
Would this be the parents' marriage?
Marriages Dec 1935 - Liverpool N. - 8b - 981: Arnold, Walter and Jacobs, Evelyn.
It fits with these births:
Births Dec 1936: Arnold, Walter - Jacobs - Liverpool N - 8b - 847.
Births Jun 1938: Arnold, Harold - Jacobs - Prescot - 8b - 1166.
Do we have any birth years for the parents?

I now have the details for Evelyn in the Newsham General. I am meeting John tomorrow and he is bringing all information so I will post the background of his story.
Name: Evelyn Arnold
Date of admission: 4/2/1947
D.O.B 25/10/1913
Married
Factory hand
Destitute
Address came from 167 Lockhurst Lane Coventry
Discharged to brother 107 Princes Street, Liverpool (John Jacobs)
Date of Discharge: 5/?/47
Details for husband just say Husband a/u or a/v I haven't got a clue what this stands for.
I think I have located John Jacobs death in 1964 which could be a avenue to go down. I will wait till I see John tomorrow as he said she may have changed her name to Jones.

Hi Katie,
RE:

Sadly, I believe the a/u stands for '
Absent. Whereabouts
unknown'. Evelyn was admitted as 'destitute'. Coming from 1947 that word tells me she had been abandoned.

I would like to post a update on John's search for his parents (Dickiesam I hope you are watching) Last week my email was hacked, and some people in my email lists started getting emails of me. Now these emails were titled DROP BOX important. Well to cut a long story short John got one of these and rang to ask me about this email, this got me thinking about his Mum and Dad again. So a search of the 1939 register I found a Walter (James) Arnold with his wife in Prescot. Now we know that Evelyn changed her name to Owens and on Monday I located the death of Evelyn Owens at Anfield, I was able to confirm today that this is Johns Mum, we went to Anfield and there is no headstone but she is in a Private grave. John never knew his mum as he was only a few years old when he went into the system. I also think we have located his dad. Johns dad was born in St. Helens on 31st March 1910 as Walter Savage Arnold (no father recorded on his birth certificate) There was a death registered 1987 of a Walter James Arnold dob 31st March 1908, ok 2 years out but I cannot find a birth in 1908 for a Walter James Arnold nor on the 1939 register. John has applied for his certificate so with thanks to the Hacker you got me fired up again on giving John some closure. But as with family history you always end up with another question? who was Margaret Arnold who Evelyn Owens (formerly Arnold nee Jacobs) was residing with at 100, Upper Canning Street?

The following were living at the address where Evelyn Owens died.
1962 Electoral Roll
100, Upper Canning Street
Cyril Davidson
John Jones
Margaret Jones
Ronald Jones
Esther Jones
Margaret Arnold
Evelyn Owens
John is not aware of any Margaret Arnold. Walter Arnold is on the 1911 Census with his mum Elizabeth in St. Helens, and as far as I am aware she had no other children called Arnold.
Elizabeth Arnold married a John Mynock in 1913.
