I found this really interesting and quite amazing, we aren't always quite the nationality we think we are.

I'd like to have a go to see my nationality results out of curiousity, I'd think it's mainly English, Welsh and a bit of Irish but would love to find another mix in there, there were some real surprises in the video clip eh?
Did you do it through Ancestry Mary?

I did take advantage of Ancestry's discounted offer, I'm expecting England and Ireland obviously so wondering if there are any surprises coming.

You might be more exotic than you think

After getting mine done with Ancestry, I was a bit surprised at the results:
82% Irish
12% British
2% Scandinavian
and the rest a bit of Eastern Europe, north and south Asia and even a teeny bit of native American!
I have now ordered a kit for my wife! I have already been contacted by 2 people from the DNA match, one from Perth in Australia and another from Philadelphia, both 4th cousins.
I have uploaded my results to gedmatch.com and myheritage.com, and also to nutrahacker.com and livewello.com, which will tell you if you are allergic to any foods, what to eat and what to avoid. I also uploaded to another site whose name escapes me (23andme do not yet take Ancestry's new DNA results) but when you are looking at the raw DNA data, it can get very complicated and confusing!
Good luck

Haha!! well all grist to the mill, still waiting anyway.
Thinking about your percentages - this must take into account both sides of the family and backwards, so does that mean you have more Irish than you expected? for example.

Hi Mary, I expected a bit less Irish, although my paternal grandfather was from Armagh and maternal great grandmother was from Dundalk. Suppose I was expecting more British with the Liverpool and Lancashire connections in the tree.
I suppose being from Liverpool and blonde, I was expecting more Scandinavian than 2%, so surprised and disappointed. I'll have to put the Viking helmet away again.
No idea at all as to where the Asia or native American came from. Maybe it was because I was eating liquorice before I took the test!

How interesting!! I'm assuming you're British? I wonder where the native American came from? Maybe one of your ancestors was a pioneer to the USA in the days of the old Wild West?

Born and bred in Liverpool Barbara, and still live here. Orretts from Fazakerley and previously Netherton. Actually, thinking about it, my maternal grandmother was a Keeley, and her relatives came from somewhere in Ireland in the 1800's, so thinking about it, maybe it's not such a big surprise

.
Maybe there is a part of a gold mine in California with my name on it!

After much debate, I've finally succumbed and I've just sent off my sample for testing. I've always had a feeling that a branch of my family may have originated in France so I'm interested to see if there's any truth in it!

My results are in! Predictably, approximately 75% was British/Irish but the one that has intrigued me is the 9% Iberian Peninsula!

I think there are many years of research ahead of me before I get that far - can't even get some of my lines out of Liverpool!!

Well the results are finally in and not really any surprises
39% Great Britain
26% Europe West
22% Ireland
4 More regions - these appear to be Scandinavia so that is a bit of a surprise.
Couple of the hints which have popped up are connections on mum's side, I'm hoping that searching through some of the others find some connections on dad's side, fingers crossed.
