St Thomas Golborne, WW1 soldier
St Thomas Golborne, WW1 soldier
I have found a WW1 soldier Harry Wilcock who was sadly killed in 1916 in France. He was the brother of my grandfather. Harry's name is on the war memorial at St Thomas Golborne. Does anyone know if there is any sort of project locally to commemorate those who died? I was thinking in terms of the centenary of WW1. If so I would be glad to contribute any information. Harry came from quite a large family and I am now finding out quite a lot about them. I live in Nottingham but I am thinking of making a trip quite soon to get a feel for the Golborne area and perhaps find out a bit more.
Re: St Thomas Golborne, WW1 soldier
I believe this area would come under our Warrington Group's remit, I will send a message to their Chairman and ask her for any advice she can give.

Hello There
There are quite a few things planned to commemorate WWI around the Wigan/Golborne area.
Some churches are doing their own thing but I am not sure if St Thomas' is. However, here are their web site details so that you can check up on it.

The Museum of Wigan Life is planning an exhibition for the anniversary of the First World War. This will probably open in late summer / autumn. For more information please phone 01942 828128

Leigh Local Studies house a collection of newspaper articles about local men who fought in the war. There is an online index which is available to download here: http://www.wlct.org/wigan/museums-archi ... llections/ For more information please phone 01942 404559
I hope this is of help to you. Let me know if I can be of more help.
