Private William George

I have a Private William George Regt no 22694 King's Liverpool Regt. He was also with the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment Regt No 35073. And if I am correct the Army Pay Corps. He was discharged through sickness on 19th November 1917 and he appears in the the Silver War Badge Records. According to his medal card he died. Can someone double check for me as I cannot locate him on CWGC under all Regiments he served with. I have a death Registration for Sept qtr 1917 for a William George died Liverpool aged 35yrs.

Is that a conflict of information? Could it have just been noted on the medal card that he had died although he was not in the services at the time and so may not have been noted on the CWGC?

Mary there were many who were discharged through sickness/wounds/etc and they may be eligible for War Grave Status, we just have to prove he died as a result of sickness/wounds received whilst serving abroad. This was what happened with Corporal John Mackie who died 1916 of wounds received September 1915 and I got his death certificate and sent it of to the InFromTheCold Project. He has now been put forward for inclusion as a casualty. I am hoping to apply for a small grant to obtain death certificates for Soldiers from Liverpool who I think are possible IFTC cases.

For what it's worth this is my interpretation!

I am aware that William enlisted in Liverpool on 9/11/14 as No 22694 in the 20th Battalion King's (Liverpool) Regt [4th Liverpool Pals]. At the time of his embarkation for France with the 20th on 7/11/15 he gave his address as 9 Moses St, Dingle and his next of kin as his mother Caroline George.

Based on this information the only census returns that match are as follows:-

His parents had been married for 30 years - 6 of their 9 children had survived.

The only death that matches this year of birth in Liverpool is William George, b. 1897 who death was registered in Liverpool 2Q 1925
