Thanks Jan.

I'd missed that one when I was looking for Thomas's death. And the fact that she died in Liverpool suggests that the Tom Meers whose death was recorded in Manchester isn't my man.

I wonder if I'll get to the bottom of this one :?

Thomas Meers

Post by Katie »

Hi Ken

Here are some details.

Liverpool Echo 28th July 1956

Meers July 20th in hospital Jessie beloved wife of Thomas Service at Church of the Good SHepherd Lowerhouse Lane Interment West Derby Cemetery

West Derby Cemetery

24th July 1956

Jessie Meers aged 56 44a Berwick Street Liverpool 6 Private Grave Section 7 Grave number 1690

I think we can safely say he was alive at the time of his wifes death.

I have checked polling registers for 1956/1957/1959 He does not appear in them. If he lived at 44a Berwick Street that could be over a shop?

If you ring Liverpool Direct on 0151 227 1410

They may tell you the order numbers of all the people who are interred in that grave.

Hope it helps

Kathy,

That's super information. Thank you very much for looking it all up for me. I think I'll go and visit Jessie's grave and see what extra information her headstone gives.

Can anyone tell me where West Derby cemetery is?

Hi Ken, if you Google West Derby Cemetery you'll see a website that has a list of M.I's and a map of the cemetery, also directions on how to get there. It's off the East Lancs, Holly ....

Thanks Holly!

[edit] OK, found the cemetery. Now, how do I go about finding the grave? I could be there longer than some of the occupants if I don't know where I'm looking!

There's a plan here
http://www.twbaird.co.uk/cemplans/westderby.html but it would seem there are three areas numbered 7, one for R/C and two for C/E.

At least it's narrowed it down a little.

Hi Ken, the Church of the Good Shepherd is C of E, and the earlier post mentioned section 7, No. 1690 - so that narrows your search to just 2 sections.

Take a picnic! Good Luck .........

I know this an old thread. I was pointed to this site by Google, looking up what a 'Huxter Hawk' was.
On an early post TH Meers is shown as living at 37 Heath St.And married to Margaret Henderson in 1891.
Head of the household John Henderson was my G G Grandfather.

Come to the Military Day at the Museum on 21 November, you will probably be able to ask him yourself.
