I have carried out some more research into the Binns brothers and I have discovered that by a strange quirk of fate, Charles won his Military Medal on the same day that his brother Alfred was taken prisoner of war. The brothers were engaged in the defence of Mesplaux Farm near Bethune and were in action within one mile of each other!

Happily, Alfred returnd to the Uk shortly after the end of the war to resume his employment in the building trade.

Good sleuthing! It is always good to find details like this.
I am sure you know of the 55th Division material at Lpool RO, which has many of Jeudwine's files, including recommendations for awards etc. The archive ref. is 356 FIF/ and the honours etc files are /29-36.
Allow plenty of time for browsing.

Hi Daggers,

I have used these archives for years and have copies of all the recommendations. They make fantastic reading.

Sadly, Albert's recommendation hasn't survived although the War Diary for 419 Field Company does go into great detail about the trench raid for which he received his MM.

Thanks for the post.
