BICC WAR MEMORIAL PLAQUES

A significant event will take place in Prescot Churchyard on Monday 10th October at 2.30 pm when the RT Revd Richard Blackburn, Bishop of Warrington, is coming to dedicate a new war memorial commemorating those employees of BICC who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars.

The memorial consists of a wall of York stone and attached to either side of this will be bronze plaques which were originally on a wall just inside the BICC main gates. When the factory was demolished, the plaques were re-erected in CCR (Continuous Copper Rolling) at Carr Lane.
Following closure of that plant, the plaques have been in the safe keeping of Knowsley MBC.

It is mainly due to Mrs Lily Clover, our Local Councillors, past and present, and Mr Steve Jones, the Parks and Cemeteries Manager, that these impressive plaques have been saved for our town; and it is a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives for their county that these plaques have found a permanent home in Prescot

I'm pleased these plaques have been preserved and will find a lasting memorial in such a fitting location.

I'm just back from a visit to Prescot St Mary's Churchyard and I am delighted to report that the BI plaques have now been erected on the wall in advance of Monday's service.

A huge "Thank You and Well Done" to Steve Jones and his team at Knowsley Council for a fantastic job well done.
