I have the following soldier

Royal Field Artillery
Palmer
L/10858
Thomas
Gunner
Liverpool
5th May 1916
Killed

He is recorded on the SDGW as being killed on 5th May 1916.

I can't find him on the CWGC. I have also searched under his number. Can anyone cross check that I have not missed him.

I have not found him on CWGC or via Geoff's search engine, where you can search by any field, name, or number, or date of death.
His medal index card is marked 'dead 5/5/1916' and shows that he earned the trio of war medals, arriving in France on 28/11/15.
What else have you about him?

His name appeared in a casualty list I have been transcribing as being killed. I couldn't find him so I always check SDGW and he is recorded on that. I have also checked the CWGC books but they are not easy accessing them on Ancestry.

Thank Heli I'll check that entry out

Heli seems to found him. Probably a bad transcription by CWGC. They usually correct them when pointed out.

Hi Daggers

His correct name is Thomas Balmer so CWGC have the right details. I have made a error note and listed him in the database I am compiling as being recorded under Palmer on the Medal Cards.

Thanks all. I have some more puzzles if you want to help?

This Soldier appeared in a list dated 31st-Oct-1917. He is recorded as having died. I can find no record of him on CWGC. He does not appear in any corrections as being incorrectly recorded as died?

Cheshire Regiment
Davies

William H
Private
Birkenhead
Died
NO RECORD CWGC

The following all appear in a list dated 27th-May-1916 Cant find anything. I want to put these 3 to rest. I do know that Soldiers were incorrectly recorded as being killed and turned up safe and sound or as POW but there is no further mention of these 3.

Frank Pegram seems to have been alive in 1933 as his Victory and British War Medals were returned for amendment.

Samuel Welding arrived in France on 25/9/15, according to his medal index card. Nothing else found.

Cornfield was a PoW after being reported missing, from 1916-1918. He enlisted on 3/9/14 and was in the 11th Battalion LF. He lived at 9a St Luke's Rd, Southport. I missed his first name and will get it from his papers on Anc.
