Hi,
Are there any searchable army death records for the years 1887-1889?
I have been looking for Thomas Roberts who apparently died during this time he was born 1866/7 in Liverpool. I cannot find a death record for him, certificates sent for so far have been wrong. So I am at a loss and wondered if he was maybe in the army and died else where. His wife’s name was Julia and they lived in Northumberland buildings & Southampton Street, Liverpool.
Thanks Linda

I wondered the same about one of my lost ancestors but couldn't find any records that might have been applicable, however a totally unexpected entry in the death indexes proved that he died at a widely different date than expected. Is it just that you have found his wife claiming to be a widow on a census? and have you thought whether they may have just separated and she gave that status to save face?

Hi Mary,
Julia remarried Oct 1889 to James Garland saying she was a widow, although I do believe the marriage to Thomas may have been bigamist as she lied about her fathers name and stated she was a spinster. She was married before, to George Barker, Thomas was her second marriage. It is very annoying as Thomas Roberts is our direct relative and I just cannot find him.

That sounds a bit suspicious to me, I wouldn't take it for granted after that story that Thomas did die when you think he did. Any other thoughts anybody?
