Hey guys

I was wondering whether anyone has any relatives serving in the cheshire regiment?

My great great Uncle Pvte Timothy Singleton served in the 9th Bn and his number is 19098. He died on 5 Nov 1916 in France and Flanders the record says he died in action. He is buried at "POZIERES BRITISH CEMETERY, OVILLERS-LA BOISSELLE". I have contacted the cheshire military museum and they said that there wasn't a good record keeping of casualties abroad an it would be hard to find out what each individual did due to record keeping (along those lines ... they were as helpful as possible). I have tried contacting the British cemetery to see if they knew were any records would be kept but didn't.

I have read some history books to try to understand the battle of france and flanders but it doesn't really give me enough information. I was wondering by any chance if anyone here knows of anything about the cheshire regiment job during this time?

Its odd I have relatives who fought in WWII and found more information about them than I have for WWI

At that date the 9th Battalion was in 58th Brigade, 19th (Western) Division, 2 Corps in the Somme Sector. The Battle of the Somme had been grinding on since 1st July with huge losses of men and little ground won. One of the engagements is named the Battle of the Ancre Heights, 1st October to 11th November, and the battalion was one of those fighting on the banks of the river Ancre in foggy and wintry conditions.
One success was the recapture of Beaumont Hamel.
