HMS Liffey 1861

Post by Daisycakes »

My gt grandfathers brother was George Jarvis Nicholas I cannot find him after 1861 and thought maybe one of the crew might spot something I have missed.

Born 1834 ish baptised in Pill Pembrokeshire parents Thomas ((was a Shipwright)) and Eliza Nicholas
Have him on the 1841 and 1851 census
Then in 1861 (as George Jas) he is aboard HMS Liffey and a carpenters mate...There is lots of info about life of this ship from building it to selling it including all of her sea life up to her being sold in 1903. There was an outbreak of smallpox and also dysentry etc...I'm wondering if perhaps he died on board and were any records kept.

There is a great picture of the Liffey on the same site.

Thanks in anticipation... :) Ann
