Victoria Cross commemoration 24 August
Posted: 21 Aug 2014 18:09
A new government scheme for marking the birthplaces of Victoria Cross holders comes to Liverpool on Sunday 24 August. At 11.00 a.m. at the entrance to Princes Park, an engraved paving stone is to be dedicated in memory of Major Ernest Alexander, Royal Field Artillery on the centenary of his winning the award near Mons, one of the first to be won in WW1. He was born at his parents' house in nearby Devonshire Road.
I understand this is a public event and that the Lord Mayor and army representatives will attend.
