Private Fred 30711 Turner
Or to give him his full name Frederick Joseph TURNER born 7th July 1898 at 13 Laburnum Grove, Southport. Son of Thomas TURNER and Mary CALLERAN.

Frederick Joseph Turner married Ellen SUMNER 7th July 1920 at St Teresa’s Church, Everton Road, Southport. On the marriage certificate he is shown as No 30711 Corp’l E. L. Regiment (fishmongers van man) and lived at 111 Hart Street, Southport.

The record of 30th July 1918 refers to Fred as Wounded
Can anybody give me any further information.

Fred died 5th April 1951 at 9 Stafford Road, Birkdale, Southport of 1a Pulmonary Tuberculosis and is buried in Duke Street Cemetery, Southport.

Frederick Joseph TURNER was my Grandfather, but I have very few memories of him as I was only 4 when he died and was living in London.
My only recollections are of a man who never went upstairs to bed because he couldn’t get upstairs. So he slept on the old leather settee downstairs.
I was regularly told that he had been GASSED by the Germans and that this ultimately caused his death.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Can you please confirm whether or not your Fred is the same as any of those mentioned above or a completely different one, as if so he deserves a thread of his own rather than being confused with another. If necessary I will separate your post from this.

Hi, Yes Fred Turner 30711 is Frederick Joseph TURNER and NOT Waddicor.

Is anybody able to tell me on what date did 30711 Fred TURNER sign up?
The original data said that of 30th July 1918 Fred was recorded as wounded. Is there any other details or can I find further details somewhere. I was always told that Fred was gassed in WW1. My only recollection of him was laying on an old settee in the lounge because he couldn't get up stairs.

I have his pocket watch that my mother gave me many years ago. It is in a very poor condition.
I also have a beautiful piece of Embroidery that is reputed to have been sent home or brought home by Fred

Hi Private Fred Turner appeared in a Casualty List published 30th July 1918. The lists where published 4 to 5 weeks after the incident at the front. I estimate that Fred was wounded on or about 25th May 1918. Do you have his Medal card details etc.

Hi, Until I stumbled upon Fred Waddicor on this list a few weeks ago and realised that it was actually Fred Turner, I knew nothing about my Grandfather.
I had been trying to find him using details from his marriage certificate. His rank is shown as Corp in the E. L. Regiment and his number looks like 77030711. Having seen the details for Fred Waddicor and somebody saying that the details were wrong, I realised that the numbers I had partially matched but the 770 was wrong. So I went back to the marriage certificate and enlarged it. It was then that I realised the 770 was actually a hand written old style lower case n. So it looked like two sevens.

I wasn't aware of any medals. So where would I find details of his medal card please.

I have asked all around the family, and nobody is aware of any medals. Would I or somebody else in the family be able to get replacements. If so where from. The regiment or somewhere else?

Taken from National Archive website: It is Ministry of Defence policy to not issue medal replacements for service before 1920, irrespective of entitlement. You may be able to obtain duplicate medals from a coin or medal dealer
For replacement of medals issued for service after 1920 contact the Ministry of Defence Medal Office.
