Richard Fenton

Post by jasjon »

Firstly I would like to say hello to everyone; this being my first post.

I have been trying to look up my family history tree for nearly a year now and seemed to have come stuck at my Great Granddad/Nan stage.

When asking my mum for information concerning her side of her family she has been very helpful, however, this information seems to only go so far. All I have been able to find out about my Great granddad is that his name is Richard Fenton, he had been married but his wife died a round a week after my Nan got married (around February 1941 and no name), he was a labourer and had two daughters after the 1911 census; Edna May Fenton (my Nan) and Jessie Fenton.

I have searched on Ancestry but had no success on name, date or even marriage. Can anyone please help?

Thanks for your time

Jason

Hi Jason,
Richard Fenton married Jessie Holmes
Registration district: West Derby
Year of registration: 1912; Jun qtr
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 1053

Ahemmm! Daughter Edna was born in 1911? Really need the marriage cert to get his age and YoB, and his father's name.

The census the year Edna was born shows only one Richard F in Lancs as a likely candidate...
FENTON, Richard aged 17, Address: 64 Tunnel Road, Edge Hill, Liverpool. Living with parents Richard Lewis and Sarah Fenton [58 and 60 respectively].

Not sure this is Richard's wife, the age is about right but the death year is not close to the year indicated by Jason. It's the only one 1930 to 1945.

Death: FENTON, Jessie
Registration district: West Derby
Year of registration: 1932; Mar qtr
Age at death: 40

The Fenton/Holmes marriage was probably at the registry office it doesn't appear to be online anywhere so you would need to order the marriage certificate.

There's a Jessie Holmes in Kinglake Rd Edge Hill with parents Wm & Kate in 1901.
1911 just around the corner in King Place with her male widowed cousin, she's 19 a sweet packer.
So perhaps helping out as housekeeper or maybe pregnant and her folks turfed her out??
