At last I've found a site that might help, have to learn all the ins and outs of it. I was down in Liverpool last year, but the place I was to go was closed to the Hillsborough families. My brother and I went to the Museum which had a library and microfiche. I live in Scotland but I found out every time my Gran fell pregnant, she went back home to her Mum to have the babies. Her married name was Emmeline Britton and she lived in a place called Walton, also Kirkdale in Li verpool. I wonder if any members knows of the name of the Parish Churches. I've no info about their d.o.b. or d.o.d.

Do you have even approximate years of birth for the children and any names for them? Any idea of what decades your gran lived in Liverpool? The only one I have found, pre-1910, was from the Manchester area, married to Charles Henry Britton but didn't live in Liverpool.

And where was "her Mum's home"?

If we can find out where she lived in a census we can tell you the nearest churches.

As Bert says we need more information. Do you have birth certificates for one of the children born in Scotland. Scottish birth certificates have more information on them than English and Welsh one so that would be helpful.

I did find an Emmaline Britton marrying a George Wing in 1921 in Fazakerley. Could she be related? There also seem to be a number of people with Britton as their surname in the Kirkdale area.

What was Emmeline's maiden anme and when and where was she born?

Re the Emmeline Britton I had found in the censuses, the only one....

Perhaps you could work backwards from your parent - whichever your mother or father, was the child of Emmeline. If they are deceased perhaps you could give their name (maiden name in the case of your mother) and date of birth, and also list if you know whether they had any brothers or sisters - ie your aunts and uncles on that side of the family.

If we are able to find the births of these then it will help with the marriage details of the parents and backward from there.

If you are aware of which religion they are, that may also help. Although they lived in the Walton/Kirkdale areas, we know from our own researches that baptisms and even marriages may have taken place in other churches, particularly St Peter's which had some prestige about it.

Sorry I've been so long in replying, but I've had a problem when logging in. The birth dates are as follows: Thomas Alexander - 4/10/12. Margarita Alexander -1917.d.o.b. Charles Alexander -1923. One addres looks like 54 Tonville Road and Commercial Road. The Liverpool Great Gran is Emmeline Britton nee Fenner married to Thomas Britton

On Ancestry census, 1911 there is a Thomas Britton with wife Emma,he is a Plumber,they have kids born Liverpool and Glasgow,also on the side where they hint at other census in 1891 they are living with James and Jane Finner (in laws),but where married still a mystery,maybe coincidence.

I think he could be Emma's son.

There doesn't appear to be a birth for a Emmeline Fenner or a marriage between Emmeline Fenner and Thomas Britton. If the above marriage is correct, Emma Fenner/James Gilmour.
A James Gilmour died aged 46, 1887, West Derby, 8b 225, a bit old for a young girl, however, his death would allow a relationship with Thomas Britton.

In 1936, March Qtr, a marriage between, Emmeline Gilmour/ Thomas Britton, Liverpool N, 8b 589,
Did they finally tie the knot?

Can't find a death for a Emmeline Britton in Liverpool, however a Emma Britton died 1941 aged 75, Liverpool N,

Hi All,

I'd like to thank everyone for all the info. My Brother and I went to Liverpool last week, came to the FH. Tuesday afternoon. It was so busy!!. My Brother, Thomas wanted to meet Bert, who did a lot of research and found out things we could never have found. We went to a cemetery, I think it was Kirkdale. We had the right no. and section but it looks as if the gravestone has disappeared. Your city is beutiful and everyone is so friendly. Reminded me of Glasgow people. Will def. be back next year, especially as I've found my Great Grans' house in Jonville Street, Walton.
