Workhouse records
Hello Everybody , I am from Argentina and I'm trying to trace back my 2GG mother , she was from Ireland and emigrated to Liverpool , died in LPool Workhouse on March 29, 1867.
I would appreciate if you can tell me how to access those records in order to get more detailed information , her name was Elizabeth Thompson , aged 71 at death.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Regards,
Roberto Estela Thompson

Re: Workhouse records
Hello Roberto and welcome,
Do you know if Elizabeth Thompson was in England in 1861?
I could find only one born in Ireland in Liverpool [and the county of Lancashire] in the 1861 census.
Edited to add: However, since she was a widow in 1861, this cannot be her.

This is the same family in 1851...
Edited to add: But it wasn't the right one! So removed!

Re: Workhouse records
DS is right on ages at death particularly if they died in the Workhouse, in some incidences that I have come across ages have been as much as 30 years out.dickiesam wrote:Hello Roberto and welcome,

If the above is her it would seem her marriage was in Ireland since her daughter Ellen was born there. I wouldn't be too concerned about the age difference because ages at death given by the informant at registration were often a best guess.

Hi dickiesam , thanks for your census returns.
Yes , Apparently she was a widow in 1861 , living in Lpool with a son John , irishborn , who would be my GGfather.

I am thinking she might have entered the workhouse because of old age / illness , since his son emigrated to NYC and wouldnt have been able to support her.
Re: Workhouse records
One more question Katie , maybe I didnt get this right , Is the microfilm service which is off until May 17th or the whole office ... ?
Re: Workhouse records
Hi and welcome to the forum. The whole library has been in the process of being refurbished over the last two years and have been working out of temporary accommodation but moving back into the building is progressing well but obviously not quite ready until mid May, so unfortunately nothing is available until then.

Re: Workhouse records
The Thompson family I found earlier was indeed incorrect!
This is, apparently, Elizabeth Thompson in 1861 concealed behind an initial.....
1861: RG09 - Piece: 2669 - Folio: 77 - Page: 19
Address: 2 Court, Cockspur Street, Liverpool, Lancashire
THOMPSON, E - Head - Widow - 61 - 1800 - Bill Paster's widow - Ireland
THOMPSON, John - Son - U/m - 23 - 1838 - Labourer - Ireland.

Re: Workhouse records
After John Thompson had left England for the USA does he indicate [or give a hint] anywhere in censuses or other documents what part of Ireland he was from?
