MARRIAGE OF ELLEN JANE DAVISON & JAMES McGEE-1846

Post by Pat Berry »

Hello
Would anyone have access to St Peter's Church, Liverpool, Marriages for 13 December 1846?
I am looking for the Marriage of Ellen Jane Davison and James McGee.
The Marriage is on Family Search but has been transcribed as St Peter's Church, Lancaster.
I can't find it on Ancestry as I don't think 1846 for St Peter's is included in the Liverpool Marriages.
I have their father's names from that record and would like to know what other information is on the record.
Thanks
Pat Berry

Sorry Pat, it seems you are right, they are missing from Ancestry, there are a number of years for St Peters that they don't have, not all in a block. Checked the Online Parish Clerks too but it doesn't seem to be there either, pity as that site usually gives more information than familysearch.

It will have to be the Record Office, in view of your location I hope somebody visiting will be able to offer to spare a few minutes for you.

I know this is rather late but I have only just joined this forum. Here is some information that I found:

Liverpool St Peter Marriages

Marriage: 13 Dec 1846 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancs.
James McGee - Full, Porter, Bachelor, Milk St.
Sarah Ellen Davison - (X), Full, Spinster, Milk St.
Groom's Father: Charles McGee, Porter
Bride's Father: John Davison, Linen Draper
Witness: James Davison; Margaret Woodville
Married by Licence by: J. G. Headlam M. A. Curate
Register: Marriages 1846 - 1847, Page 189, Entry 377
Source: LDS Film 1656509
Familysearch has the name Ellen Jane Davison.

As you can see the bride's name is similar to your information but not the same. hope this doesn't confuse you.

Best wishes

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for jumping straight in with some information for one of our members, can you please tell us where your details are from, perhaps the Online Parish Clerk site ? http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html It would appear that somewhere there is a discrepancy in the transcription that needs to be rectified, I believe Katie would have got her information (above) from the actual Parish Register, which is always recommended should be double checked when finding an transcribed entry online.

Hello Newman0511
Thank you for your message. The record that you have found appeared on Lancashire Parish Clerks website after I had received the details of the record that "Katie" found at Liverpool Record Office on 10 June 2013.
The Lancashire Parish Clerks record states the bride's name as SARAH ELLEN DAVISON. This is incorrect as her name is definitely ELLEN JANE DAVISON. Also on that record it states that MARGARET WOODVILLE is one of the Witnesses. She should be MARGARET WOODSIDE. Margaret was Ellen Jane Davison's sister who married ISAAC WOODSIDE before 1839. Everything else is correct.
There is another record on Ancestry.co.uk (England Select Marriages) which has St Peter's Church in Lancaster instead of Liverpool.
Thank you for letting me know what you had found.
Regards
Pat

Error sent to Lancs OPD site, in case you hadn't sent one Pat, hope they aren't inundated with both yours and my error corrections.

Hello Mary
Thanks for sending the Error to the Lancashire Parish Clerks site. I hadn't sent one. Do you just write to them and tell them?
The Ancestry record didn't have the normal option to fix an error so I have left St Peter's Church in Lancaster and noted on my Family Tree but I will now contact Ancestry and tell them that this St Peter's Church is in Liverpool not Lancaster.
