John Willcox born about 1777 - Gloucestershire. My 4th GGF
Hello
Trying to find the parents of our 4th GGF whose family come from either Gloucestershire or Somerset areas of the UK.
John Willcox was born about 1777 and have no date of death. He was married to Hester Shill at St James Parish Church in Bristol on 2 February 1802.
Hesther was born : 16 Oct 1779 in Thornbury, Avon, Gloucestershire
Hesther died: 19 May 1806 in Almondsbury, Gloucestershire, England
Hester Parents: Father: Issac Shill and Mother: Martha Knott
The Willcox line in our tree comes from the Gloucestershire areas of Almondsbury/Thornbury/Bristol/ and moved up to West Derby in Liverpool via Sydney Benjamin Willcox, his father was Benjamin Willcox of Bristol, a ships captain who died 1873 on the voyage to the Gold Coast in Africa and was buried there.
As this is our direct family line we would like to of course tie off this loose end and any help is appreciated
Best Wishes
Bill Willcox

Re: John Willcox born about 1777 - Gloucestershire. My 4th G
Can you tell us the approximate date they arrived in Liverpool.
When you say West Derby, do you mean the area of West Derby, Lancashire, or is it the registration district that you have from a BMD entry?
Although the crew try their best out of the Lancashire area, sometimes through lack of resources in an area such as Gloucestershire/Somerset, we might suggest that you try a forum such as www.rootschat.com which has a separate board for each county and people who specialise in them might see your post and have a resource that might be able to help.
If you do decide to take up this suggestion, please post a cross reference on here so that we can save any duplication of research.

Re: John Willcox born about 1777 - Gloucestershire. My 4th G
The 1870 marriage took place in St Philips, Liverpool
17 February, 1870 by Banns
Benjamin Wilcox 30 Bachelor Master Mariner 27 Mount Pleasant
Father John Wilcox, Farmer
Amelia Dorothy Pilkington 21 Spinster, same address
Father Frances Pilkington, Stevedore
Witnesses A W Leighton and Emily Bryan
It looks like they all signed, but Benjamin spelled his name Willcox
It would seem to confirm your 1841 finding DS

Hello
Thank you all who have posted the above information and taken their time to research. We have all the information listed above and it is only from John and Hester , mainly John Willcox 1777 as have all of Hesters informations and most of her family line. I just do not want to waste peoples time and thought I'd let you know so as not to waste your efforts.
Thank you deeply for the speed and professionalism of those members who posted information

Hello Bill,
I though you might have the info I posted, but you didn't say you already had the 'Liverpool' line tied off all neat and tidy.
I think your best route is to follow MaryA's suggestion....
