Post by darylroyce »

Hi,
can anyone tell me how to get marriage records from the Gt. Crosshall st independent church, now gone. Owen Solomon married Ellen Griffith there but I dont know which year. The church was a Welsh Baptist church as they were from Wales.
Any help would be great. thanks Marion

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The Liverpool Record Office should have the records, either on microfilm or the original documents.

http://liverpool.gov.uk/libraries/archi ... y-history/

It would be a good idea to check with them by email before you go as if you need to view the originals in the archive you need to book 24 hours in advance.

If I'm reading this correctly the daughter was born in 1822. Before civil registration began in 1837 all marriages had to take place in the Established Church ie the Church of England unless you were a Jew or a Quaker. If they were married before 1837 you need to be searching the Church of England records.

The couples later children were christened at St Peter C of E in Liverpool.

An Owen Solomon marries at St Nicholas in 1838 giving his father as Owen Solomon

If this is an earlier child of Owen and Ellen he may well have been born in Wales and his parents marriage would have been in Wales.

There is an Owen being buried aged 26 years in 1841 and is buried at St Martin in the fields in Liverpool.

His christening is possibly on 5 June 1815 at Llanbeblig Caernarfonshire Wales parents listed as Owen and Eleanor. There are other children at the same church of Owen and Ellen.

When your Ellen marries what is her father's occupation?

Of course there could be 2 Owen Solomon families one staying in Wales and one in Liverpool.

PS the Owen buried in 1841 is not the Owen who marries in 1838 as he is recorded on a baptism register in 1842

The Owen Solomon christened in Llanbeblig in 1815 was the son of Owen and Elinor and Owen was a mariner.

They must have married elsewhere, investigation needed into other non conformist style churches or perhaps even in Wales.

As they must have married before 1837 you need to be looking at the Church of Wales or the Church of England for a marriage.
