Cockrell Street??

Post by Hilton »

My great Grandmother Kate Light married a Arthur Hilton at St Mary's Kirkdale on the 17th July 1886.
Kate was residing at 164 Walton Road and the residence of Arthur Hilton at the time of marriage was 68 Cockrell Street. I can only assume these addresses were in the parish of Walton on the Hill. Walton road is still visible on street map, but I cannot find any record of Cockrell Street or anything similar. Does anyone have knowledge of this street?
Is there any way of finding out about who resides at a given address in between Census years.
Many thanks for any help with this.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Check out the Liverpool History Projects site and you will be able to see where Cockerell Street was http://www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co. ... eets.htm#C Although the street doesn't appear to be there now, there is still a Cockerell Close which you will find if you use https://maps.google.co.uk/ and is just behind Walton Road, so is in the area you are expecting.

You should be able to check Electoral Registers at the Liverpool Record Office, William Brown Street, or perhaps the trade and street directories might have mention of them. There are some online at http://www2.le.ac.uk/library/find/rareb ... irectories

I've found a Cockerell St off Walton Rd going through to Walton Lane.
Very few homes listed, the Presbyterian Hall was at number 73.
This is 1894 Kellys/Gores Directory

To MaryA and Tina,

Many thanks for your responses on Cockerell Street. Looks like the area is now redeveloped, but there again it was 1886 when my grandparents lived there!

Could anyone advise on how to find Burial records for the areas of St Helens, Sutton, etc.Regards,

Ron

Ty St Helens Cemetery

Do a Google search for "deceased person search St Helens" and the site should pop up.
