ERNEST BITHELL

Post by shirley »

Not sure if this is the correct place to put this query.
Some years ago , before Ancestry etc, I came across ERNEST BITHELL, who was attached to my husband's grandfather HENRY LEEMING, from his marriage to SELINA BITHELL. This was put on the site by a member of the Mormon church, who had ancestors of the same name.
Ernest was born to Selina 2 feb 1883 four years before she married Henry. On the birth cert of Ernest, the fathers name was left blank, but on his baptism the father was named as JAMES GRIFFITHS, which I believe to be true. (Banardos records)
As I was very new to FH, I really believed that he was the son of Henry and over time time obtained various documents relating to Ernest, which included Birth cert, copies of his Banardos record, his passage to Canada as a home child, and his army records.
It came to light after a couple of years, that Ernest did NOT belong to Henry Leeming I got in touch with the Mormon member, and asked him to erase it from the Mormon record, but I noticed recently, that he still has him attached to Henry on Ancestry. I have been in touch again requesting him to erase him from Henry.
My request is, is there any one out there who "wants" Ernest. I have got such a lot about him, which I am very willing to pass on to anyone, I even have a photo, which came from Banardos

Some more info. Selina Bithell was the daughter of Catherine Bithell, who was a verger in Gresford parish Church (near Wrexham) and John Bithell. Selina was born in Wales, and was working as a servant when she became pregnant and was sent to live with her brother in Liverpool where she had the baby.
I am hoping there is someone out there who he belong to.

What a lovely offer Shirley, after all that it must have cost you over the years. The forum is very well picked up by the googlebot and others so if anybody is searching for the name I'm sure they will come across this post.

Sorry that your requests have been ignored by the original person on Ancestry, this is not unusual, there are many unscrupulous "researchers" who don't really want their work corrected.

I hope you get somebody legitimate contacting you.

Yes Mary, it has cost a lot over the time. I have a file for Ernest which I cannot bring myself to get rid of, in fact I have become vey fond of him, as he seems not to have had a very good childhood.

Did he return to England or remain in Canada? If he returned here, would it be possible to trace any marriage/children for him? or if he remained in Canada I'm wondering if your message might reach descendants if it was posted on a specific Board, such as http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?board=166.0

There is an Ernest Bithell showing up on the Canada Voters Lists, in Ontario, however as the date is 1972 it's probably not yours, but I suppose it could be a son. Sorry I don't have World access to see what is on the list.

Yes, he did stay in Canada, and married there. I have got his marriage, but nothing about any children. He also died in Canada.
