Seaching for DAVID CROSBY, his family/siblings Garston area
G'day,
My first post..
One of my contacts gave me your web site address, as she suggested that someone may know my Grandfather's family, and their contact details.
For a few years, on and off, I have not being able to locate my grandfather's family, his siblings , and their children.
Using Ancestry & Genes, I have made contact with several CROSBY in Liverpool via email,
however, they are not directly related to David & siblings.
The only close match i had on Genes was one who had Davids siblings on her tree, however Elsie did not reply to
my emails.
I do have 2 photo's of some of Davids nieces, taken in 1944, one has a name who is a girl 10yr 19.11.1944 ( now 79'ish ) ,
the other two women ( no names ) approx 20yrs old. ( who would now be 95'ish )

Hi and welcome to the forum, I would ask that for privacy issues, you don't post any details of living people.
We have tried to put together some suggestions for tracing living people, here http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154
Also for anybody else wishing to try to help, the details from the 1901 census, so giving the approximate years and places of birth are
32 Halewood Road, Much Woolton, Lancashire
RG13; Piece: 3509; Folio: 113; Page: 6
Samuel Crosby Head M 36 Railway Signalman Lancashire Woolton
Ann Wife M 26 " "
Louie daur 14 Domestic Servant " Wavertree
Robert son 12 " Gateacre
Ellen daur 13 " Halewood
David son 9 " Gateacre
Samuel son 7 " Liverpool
Sarah daur 4 " "
Harry son 2 " Woolton
Thomas Kit son 6 weeks " "
The age of Ann/Louie makes me think this is perhaps a second marriage for Samuel.

Perhaps wrong recording of Ann's age in 1901?
1911,
RG14 P22685,
9 Woolton Rd,
Declares 29 years married,
Samuel Cadsby (Crosby), transcription error.

According to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk the marriage was to Annie Jones at St Mary Edge Hill. Www.freebmd.org.uk gives it as both Jones And Junes.
Do you have David's birth certificate? If yes what does that state?

Re: Seaching for DAVID CROSBY, his family/siblings Garston a
Hello Geoffrey, and welcome.
A likely marriage for Thomas K[itchen] Crosby..
Births Jun 1901: Crosby, Thomas Kitchen - Prescot 8b - 669
Actually born 19 February 1901 [from Death entry], so a late registration?
Thomas Kitchen Crosby died in West Lancashire June 1987.
Thomas K Crosby married Lucy R Nown
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1922; Sep qtr
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 628.
With privacy in mind I am giving only the outline details of later events, no names, but a search of the indexes will fill in those gaps.
Appears to be only one child, a daughter, to the above marriage...
Births Dec qtr 1923 - W.Derby 8b - 1089
And she married in Liverpool South, Lancashire, 1942, Dec qtr.
Two sons born, 1945 and 1950. Both sons married and are very likely to be still alive. At least one had children. Both marriages took place in Crosby, Lancashire.
A search of Electoral Rolls, 2000 on, could possibly locate these brothers. I recommend http://tracegenie.com/ Gives you 24 hour continuous access for £3.50, but 'continuous' means don't log off the site!

I have a newspaper article for David published in the Liverpool Express. I copied it because the headline reads AND STILL SMILING-Riddled with bullets and bayoneted. Liverpool Australians Amazing Experience. There is a image of him as well. Quite a good write up,

From Katie's post..... http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forum ... topic=9155
Obviously related to Geoffrey our current poster? Not sure about the Garston area but fairly sure there are rellies in or near Crosby.I am the grand daughter of Pte David Crosby. I didn't know him as he died long before I was born. My mother had told me that he was wanting to enlist for WWII but was in hospital and died in 1939 from the bullet in the liver.
We don't know much about his family. I was interested reading the information about his brothers. I wonder if there are any Crosby relatives still in the Garston area?

I used Garston as that was the original information, i assume that the family has spread around the area.

Geoffrey,
A note to add to the reference to the death of Thomas Kitchen Crosby...
The West Lancashire registration district would be adjacent to the area known as Crosby where I believe his g.sons may well be living, having both married there. It was created 1st of Jan 1974 out of Ormskirk, Ince, and Crosby registration districts.

Geoffrey,
Had a go at tracking another one of Samuel and Annie's sons. Fairly confident I have tracked descendants up the the 1990s.
Births Jun 1890: Crosby, Robert Stanley - W. Derby - 8b - 288
Death: CROSBY, Robert S
Registration district: Liverpool North, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1951; Jun qtr
Age at death: 61
Volume no: 10D; Page no: 393
Robert S Crosby married Mary Kelly
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1921; Mar qtr
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 722
I believe a son and a daughter were born to this marriage. Both married and I have found children and g.children to the son's marriage. Details via PM. Using the Electoral Rolls from 2000 you might be able to find addresses etc.

Re: Seaching for DAVID CROSBY, his family/siblings Garston a
Hi David Crosby is my grandfathers brother. My grandfather is William Crosby born 21 December 1883 in Much Woolton in the County of Lancaster his parents being Samuel Crosby (b.04/04/1863) & Annie Crosby formerly Innes (b.16/09/1864). They were married on the 4th October 1883 so my grandfather was cutting it a bit fine! You seem to have too many Crosby's at this level as he told me he was one of thirteen. Having said that he did go off to live with his grandparents as he was cutting it a bit close. He left for sea at 13 to join the RN so he did not see a lot of his later brother & sisters. The last one living in this set was to my knowledge Annie Crosby who lived near Liverpool and my father went to see her towards the end of his life. I did hear from my grandfather that a couple of his brothers "jumped" ship and now live in Australia, so you probably have another relative close by.
Regards to all my Australian cousins.
