Priests from All Souls RC Church , Collingwood st.Liverpool
Priests from All Souls RC Church , Collingwood st.Liverpool
Can anyone help with a little bit of info.
I am trying to find priests and dates for All Souls RC Church, Collingwood street. Liverpool
I have a priest, Patrick Doyle, who is shown as a Parish priest here, Can anyone give me any indication of when he was a priest at this church.
Also, the full name of a priest at this same church in 1882, all I have is Joseph Pa****.
If no one can supply the information, do you know where I would be likely to be able to obtain this information .
Thanks, I appreciate your time.

Edward O'Reilly was the name on a marriage certificate I have dated 1896.
I had thought of Crockfords http://www.crockford.org.uk/unfortunately this seems to be only C of E.
Worth trying the Historical Directories site http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/index.asp as I believe the churches would probably be listed in the Trade and Street directories. There are a complete list or these digitised via the Liverpool Library login if you are able to get to the Record Office.
Also I wonder if skipping through the Marriage Registers on film for the dates you are interested in might give you the information you want. These are also available on Ancestry.
If you were to give us the details of the entry you found Joseph Pa* on we could take a look ourselves and give an opinion, but there is a Josephus Parker who officiated at a marriage on 10 October, 1882, could be him?

MaryA, thankyou for your quick reply. Regarding the last priest I mentioned Joseph, yes it would be the Joseph Parker you mentioned . 1882 is spot on.
The other priest Patrick Doyle would have been after 1882 but before 1950 at the very latest. Is there a catholic record society somewhere that you know of that might be able to help.
Thanks

There are Roman Catholic Directories at Liverpool going back years and years. And I do know that the Priest from St. Sylvestors on Silvester Street, Liverpool officiated at All Souls. Also in the back of the Gore's Directories for Liverpool and area they have a section on Churches and who was the Parish Priest for that year.

Great Bertieone, so in 1944 he was appointed Parish Priest at All Souls. Before that he was just classed as a Curate at All Souls. Any idea what the difference was between Parish Priest and Curate.

In the Catholic Church, the English word "curate" is used for a priest assigned to a parish in a position subordinate to that of the parish priest. The parish priest (or in the United States the "pastor") is the priest who has canonical responsibility for the parish. He may be assisted by one or more other priests, referred to as curates, assistant priests, parochial vicars or, in America, "associate/assistant pastors".

They are both on microfilm/fiche to be trawled through at your leisure or via the Onelog on computer so you can search digitally.MaryA wrote: I believe the churches would probably be listed in the Trade and Street directories.
