BAPTISMS AT OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL RC CHURCH, DINGLE

Post by Pat Berry »

Hello
Does anyone know if Liverpool Record Office holds the Baptisms for Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church in Dingle.
The Liverpool RC Baptisms are online at Ancestry but Our Lady of Mount Carmel only appear to go up to 1905.
I am after my Dad's and his brothers and sisters baptisms. I have their Birth Dates.
Thanks
Pat Berry

Hello Mary
Here are the details:-
Frances Higgins born 31 July 1905 Toxteth Park
Patrick Higgins born 8 February 1908 Rankin Street, Toxteth Park (my Dad)
Jeffrey Higgins born 15 June 1910 Toxteth Park
James J Higgins born 5 April 1913 Toxteth Park
Mary Higgins born 5 April 1913 Toxteth Park
Michael Higgins born 21 April 1916 (I think he may have been born at 30 Hornby Street Kirkdale so may not be at Mount Carmel)
If any of these could be found with Godparents it would be a great help.
Thanks
Pat

I'm sorry to say that the film covering 1905-1913 was missing, however I scrolled through 1913 up to 1917 with no Higgins found at all.

Hello Mary
Thank you very much for looking through the films for me. I wonder where the original register would be.
I will investigate.
Regards
Pat

I believe the film had been misplaced and I was told later than it had been found in a completely different filing cabinet, however the Help Desk was in full swing by this time so I wasn't able to go back and look again. If there is enough time next week I could try the earlier film.

I suspect the original registers will be at the Record Office, most are but they film registers so that we researchers don't need to handle them all the time.

Francesca Higgins born 31 July 1905 baptised 13 August
Parents Jacob and Maria Helena nee Donnelly
Godparents Michael Cullen and Maria Hannigan
See below for additional information on the entry, I couldn't read it, but I expect it may be something relative to her marriage later, notes were often cross referenced.

Geffarus Higgins born 14 June 1910 baptised 25 June 1910
Parents Jacobi and Mariae Helenae Higgins nee Donnelly
Godmother Francesca Sullivan.

The only other one I found was Patrick so I copied it for you.

Hello Mary
Thank you very much for finding and sending me those three Baptisms. With reference to the one for Frances Higgins, the notation is of her Marriage. I knew she married Patrick Tracy in 1929. That notation now gives me the Marriage Date as 24 September 1929. I wasn't sure of Patrick Tracy's father's name but I had found a likely 1911 Census with Thomas Tracy. The notation states Patrick's father was Thomas. I have now found more records of Patrick Tracy's family as a result of that notation. The Church will be Our Lady of Reconciliation de la Salette in Eldon Street, Kirkdale. Frances Tracy was living at 30 Hornby Street, Kirkdale when she married.
Regarding James J Higgins and Mary Higgins (twins) who were born in April 1913, I have found that they must have been living at 58A Northumberland Street, Liverpool 8 then as James J died there in June 1913.
Michael Higgins born in 1916 was probably born at 30 Hornby Street so his Baptism may be at Our Lady of Reconciliation in Eldon Street.
My Aunt Mary Higgins carried on living at 30 Hornby Street after she married in 1939 until the tenements were pulled down in the late 70's.
I have noticed that there is an email contact for Our Lady of Reconciliation so I will write to them as I want to find out about their school records also.

Thank you once again.
Pat

I assumed they must have moved when I didn't find the baptisms in the same church
