Death certificate

Hi All, I am still researching John and Mary Ann Edwards and with such common names I am having trouble finding when they actually died. I have located a John Edwards who was buried on the 6April 1866 (Volume 8b, Page 117). He was interred at Ford Cemetery. My question, is there anyway I can get more information on this without purchasing a death certificate. As From previous experiences I have founded that death certificates from that time are not. very helpful.

Probably only by visiting the grave and reading the inscription to see what family members are mentioned is the best step forward at this stage.
That may give you DoB,Age,Spouse and children's names but its still down to cross referencing and detective work.
Do you have the grave number ?
Ford cemetery does have a helpful web site I think in order to locate where you need to look.

Looking at the burial record it looks like he was buried in Section F that's a private section so there could be a gravestone. There doesn't appear to be any mention in the local newspaper.

Sefton Local History at Crosby Library hold some very good microfiche records of Ford Cemetry. You can look up the grave number with section and find who else is in the grave or if you haven't got the section and grave number they can be looked up by name.

As you have the name etc they may be willing to do a look up for you. The names of the people in the grave also give the address of the person.

Hi All, Thanks to everyone that gave good advice on my research of John Edwards. I tried it all and thanks Blue I did get in contact with Roots They kindly looked it up for me BUT it turned out to be the wrong John Edwards.
I think I am not meant to find out when John and Mary Ann Edwards died.

Hi All, I am still trying to find out when John and Mary Ann Edwards died. I am totally at a loss and do not know what to do next. As they have such common names it makes it harder.i have found them in the 1861 census (piece 2673, Folio 94, page 43) but from then on nothing.
As I live in Australia I just can't go to the records office to do my research.
Any suggestions please or should I just give it up and put it in the I known file.

Most of us do our research via the internet, especially as there are more and more records becoming available.

You seem to be focussing solely on these two, whereas generally speaking it is better to look at a bigger picture.

Firstly was their religion RC? is that why you were looking at Ford burials?

What happened to George after 1881 and Jane?

You posted on Rootschat that there were other children who didn't survive - when did they die? have you found where they are buried?

Have you checked the local church graveyards as at that date some of the cemeteries hadn't yet opened.

Hi Mary, I just wanted to let you know that I found when John Edwards died. He died in October 1865 and was buried at the Anfield Cemetery. I found it after using one of the links that you recommended. I am still searching for Mary Ann. Many Many thanks Mary without you boosting me along I would have given up.i am just so pleased.

Oh that's great! the links to online transcriptions are not complete and often time consuming to work through, but so worthwhile when they produce a result like that.
