:) Hi When researching my Dad's and Grandfather's Merchant Navy history I found that Dad's record (called a CRS10) was held at the National Archives Kew. This included ships served on from 1939 to 1945 as MN men were conscripted for military service. After the war men returned to "casual" ship by ship employment and I understand most of these records were sent to Canada for storage. If they didn't sign on for war service or left the Merchant service before 1940 the record is called CR10 and those not lost or destroyed are held at Southampton Archives. Hope I have helped in some way.

Hi Yappie thanks for this information. I am struggling to find my grandad's MN history. Will start exploring the two avenues you listed.

Many thanks for your help. That is reallu useful advice. I will look into this more. It has made me realise that I have researched my distant ancestors but actually know little about one of my grandparents.

Many thanks for your help.

Thank you Bert for that listing. Please could I ask how you tracked it down?

The above is from Ancestry (USA) records, its the only hit, seafaring.

However, there are 2 hits for a Freddie Roseby, 1952, 1957, flying from London to New York with, British Overseas Airways Corporation.
The 1952,
C/O,
G R Brown Inc,
Whittier, L.A. California.

Might be relevant if you know what his employment was for those years.
