It's ok, Sue knows where the West comes from, it is from John's mother.....she also has Nora and the Prendergast family sorted.... she was just curious about the additional kiddie in the grave.................. very long threads on this family a while ago. Took us quite a while to sort it all but we got there in the end

I think he may have used Fred this time because Fredericus may be a confirmation name looking at other entries on Ancestry.
he was John William Davies, but has also used the name West.

His mum was Sara West/ Smart/ Davies

Hi folks decided to try new tree for Joyces/Gallagher......what a nightmare, they are all called Honora

Thank you all for the additional information I think I could be welded to this computer for a while

I have sent for John Francis Davies birth certificate, see what that turns up. The only reason that I can think of why John William Davis uses the name "West" is it was his mothers middle name (Sara West Smart). So maybe it was a stage name of some sorts....or to cover up something (which is more likely )

Norah Prendergast........her fathers name was John, you found him living with a daughter in Sunderland. It was her nephew Sidney that married her daughter (my great auntie Norah)

Thought a few hours refining my tree's would be relaxing Seems it wasnt to be, and your right Mary, would have been finished long ago if I had no black sheep and hidden suprises. Although I am glad my grandad's was straightforward, even if he had kept his family well hidden

I have a couple of Forest of Dean families who used various names in early 19th century.. One family used the name Ward on all census returns and their children's birth certs regardless of their real name, their own father was a Barnes/Byrne/Burns, and they also used the name Marshall, their mothers name eventually found that their grandmother was a Ward

took me a solid 3 months to sort it all out, being non conformists in all senses didn't help as well. One chap who contacted me had been trying to fathom it for 30 years

my tree has people called Marshall/Barnes known as Ward takes up quite a bit of room on the finished article.

Hi have tried to put a trail together of all the information you have found me:

1895 16 Holden Street John William Davies has this address on his army records he was 17yrs10ths

1891 148 Olivia Street last known address for Honora/Norah/Ann Prendergast.

1901 Her father is living with his daughter Mary (now Usher) in South Shields. His wife having died in 1884 in Liverpool

No sign of Honora Prendergast.........although the birth of John Francis West would explain that.

I cant find neither Norah or John on 1901 census. Still looking under all the alias but havent found anything yet

so between 1899- 1911

1899 3 Roberts Terrace Salisbury Street .........John Francis West born 18.12.1899

1901 39 Exe Street ....Jessie May Davies born (13.12.1901) but baptised as Jessie May West (5.4.1902)

1903 Jane Helen Davies Born 24.03.1903........sending for cert!!

1904 33 Lovet Street given as mothers address Norah Davies born (23.4.1904) although address of birth is 13 Holden Street. Certificate date is 2nd June...........so moving to Freeman street happened maybe in June/July/August of 1904

1904 26 Freeman Street Jane Helen Davies died here 26.8.1904 (just realised i dont have her birth certificate, will order after this) This is also the address of her baptism on the 16.8.1904, 10 days before she died.

1907 51 Dove Street, this is registered address for death of John Francis Davies, Born John Francis West.

1908 33 Eden Street Sara Davies (my nan) born 7.4.1908

1911 88 Solway Norah, and children Norah and Sara living there. John William Davies "away"

1911 16 Liffey Street, Jessie May living here with Grandparents

hmmmm really interesting, yes it says ACTOR so that could be John and Nora in 1901 wonder if they simply took the name West from the family they were staying with... but why are they hiding if it's them?

Can't see anything that immediately connects the Westwells, Ellen Westwell is a Nellie 10 years later with son Harry in Manchester. RG14; Piece: 24156
