Back to business in hand, no pun intended,

I think I'm well and truly behind the black ball, case closed for now. :(

Thanks Steve,

I came across that girl whilst searching variations of Chamney, she declares herself married and her name doesn't appear to be a transcription error, so put her on the back burner without dismissing her completely.

What we have so far points towards Eliza, 1861, being the daughter of William and Eliza (Ulverston)
I haven't got or had sight of a marriage cert, only what's online, it appears she married James Walmsley in 1890, he declares himself a widower.

If Eliza Chamney, mother of William(birth cert) 1894 and the Eliza who married James Walmsley in 1890 are the same person, something traumatic has perhaps happened to the marriage for Eliza to revert back to her maiden name when registering the birth.

James Walmsley first marriage was to Susannah Wilkinson in 1878, born, abt 1855, Greasby, Cheshire.
I can't find a death for a Susannah Walmsley prior to 1890.

Suspicious minds and all that
Bert
