Help with Baptism record Holy Cross RC Church 1852

Post by claret »

Hello
I found my Great Uncle's Baptism on Ancestry as follows:
Holy Cross RC Church Liverpool, Born 5 June, Baptised 20 June 1852, John Tyrril, father James mother Anne. The problem is that the information re God parents & possibly address is missed off the image. I can see God father is John & that's all. In the past this information has been really helpful & opened up doors so would love to know the remainder of the entry is. Presuming the original books would be in Liverpool, I wondered if some kind person would be able to do a look up next time they are at the records office?

Many thanks Clare

Hi

Welcome to the forum. I can't believe the stupidity of whoever scanned the early baptism registers of Holy Cross RC. Couldn't they see they were cutting off part of the record?! Make sure you send a complaint to Ancestry telling them about these incomplete records.

If you don't have any luck getting a look-up contact the Record Office explaining about this missing information on Ancestry which is supplied to you in conjunction with the Record Office and asking them to provide the missing information from that particular record:-

Thank you Blue. I have lodged a complaint with Ancestry as you suggested. I looked at a few of the other pages & they all seem to be the same, it looks like only 1 side of the book has been scanned. Maybe if enough people complain they will rescan the book. Fingers crossed!

In the meantime I will email the Records Office, worth a try.

Many thanks

Clare

Hi Clare

I sent Ancestry a message and got a standard type of response asking could the record be on another page(?) I've explained in both my messages to them that all the early baptism register scans are incomplete cut off when it comes to the godparents information.

Sadly I'm not sure that this problem would be rectified as Ancestry wouldn't hold the originals but returned them to the LRO. I believe it would be quite a faff for them to return to make a few errors right.

I agree it's unlikely that Ancestry will fix this but at least they've been informed. There are a lot of incomplete records though all baptism registers for 1849-58 for Holy Cross have been affected.

Good news! I emailed Central Library Record Office as Blue suggested. They were very helpful & looked it up for me. How's that for service?

Well done Clare. Depending on the nature of the enquiry sometimes they will provide information free other times they will suggest paying for their research service.
