21 Nile Street 'Mount Pleasant'

Post by daggers »

The address given above is taken from the Toxteth park burials, for a couple named Meikle who both died in 1903. In 1901 both were living in Wellington Road, Wavertree, and the Nile Street address does not seem to fit with any known family.
Can anyone say what was at 21 Nile Street in '03, please? It does not seem to fit with Mount Pleasant.

Hi Daggers, I don't think any of us have 1903 Directories.
My closest is 1894. Nile St at 121 Gt George St.
Sorry not of much help.
About 9 Meikle men listed.
Wavertree born, Tox Park Cem was always known as Smithdown Rd Cemetery.
I will have a squiz in 1911 to see what was at Nile St.

Tks Blue nothing in 1911 indicates it was a home or hospital.
Quite baffling.

Just to add that in 1914
Mrs Annie Thomas was at that address

Nothing to show that is was anything other than a house

Thanks, one and all. I shall have to peek at the original register when I can get to the Lpool RO.

In the 1901 Census 21 Nile Street was an uninhabited house so they or friends or family could have moved there. There's a tailor in number 19 and a Passenger & Shipping Agent at number 23.

Thanks again. I shall probably never find why they moved from familiar surroundings in Wavertree, where there were other relatives.
