Walker's Dairies

Post by Bertieone »

Hi All,
I'm a member of a History Forum and this offer was made by another member.

"I have a suitcase and a large box of paperwork regarding a gentleman. There are birth certificates, personal letters, drawings photographs, all from 1912-1960 and lots more. I acquired these awhile ago. Available for free as long as they're looked after and not separated"

I contacted him and suggested he tried to get the above back into the family or relatives of the family. It wasn't something he thought he was capable of doing, lacking knowhow, etc.

I now have it all in my care, my aim is to see it back to where I think it deserves to be, with the Walker family. Hopefully someone on here or a member of the society are related and have them in their tree.

Hi Bert,
A deserving cause... It would be worth finding living descendants or relatives of this gentleman. I will certainly give it a shot. Would it be in order to post some info such as name and birth date, if he married and to whom, etc? Anything that might be considered 'sensitive' could be PMd.

Hi DS,

For now I'd like to leave the nitty gritty off here, but I realise we might have to go looking to achieve my aim. Will send PM with your starter for ten.

If it is Walker's Dairies we are looking at they were taken over by Lyons in 1947 having been founded in the 1920s. Googling Walker's dairies gave a hit on the Lyons website.

Are we now looking for descendants of the managing director and company secretary? Or are we barking up the wrong tree?

Clifford may have married Charlotte M Peck in 1927 but it was West Derby Register Office or Registrar attended marriage.

The Company Sec Clifford Walker is the MDs younger brother. The primary search is for John Geoffrey Walker bn in 1930, the only child of William and Florence Walker [nee McGrady] or his descendants. Failing that any interested family descendent. There is a strong possibility, as Bert recently posted, that we have found him. Watch this space! :D

From 1910+1:
Henry Walker Head 39 1872 Window Cleaning Proprietor - Lancs, Burnley
Margaret Walker Wife 39 1872 Lancs, Burnley
William Walker Son 18 1893 Clerk to the business - Lancs, Burnley
Clifford Walker Son 10 1901 - Lancs, Burnley
Annie Walker Dtr 9 1902 - Lancs, Burnley
May Walker Dtr 7 1904 - Durham, Sunderland
Walter Walker Son 4 1907 - Durham Sunderland
Margaret Ellen Winterbottom Walker Dtr 3 1908 - Durham Sunderland

Births Dec 1900: Walker Clifford - Burnley 8e 169
Births Mar 1892: Walker William - Burnley 8e 197

Hi All,

If I may, a little update.

I have through DS's detective work, an address and names I will be endeavouring to contact. I can confirm the address and names are correct, not that I ever doubted they would be, I've only just come across them in the bundle of correspondence I have.
I feel these people should be contacted first before I go any further.

Thanks for all your help, I will keep all informed.

Unfortunately, John Geoffrey Walker died in 2009 and the telephone number we had for his and his wife's last address no longer is recognised.

There are some private trees on Anc I will get in touch with and investigate in the coming weeks, in the meantime I'm hoping someone on the forum or the society will have a connection to the Walker family.

Walter Walker, 1907, Sunderland,

There's a couple of hits,1927, Canadian Passengers, mother, Margaret Walker, 5 Laurel Rd Liverpool.
5 Laurel Rd, was Walkers Dairy.

The destination address was,

Land Settlement, Winnipeg. Is this an indication he was emigrating?

Update.
We know that Walker sons William and Clifford found their way to Liverpool and their brother Walter emigrated to Canada. Their father Henry appears to have died in Sunderland and one of the Walker sisters may have married and died up there. So I am extending the search to the north-east by posting as a guest on the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society site.

However, before I post up there... meanwhile, back at the ranch... following up on Hilary's suggestion...
Clifford may have married Charlotte M Peck in 1927 but it was West Derby Register Office or Registrar attended marriage.
Marriages Dec 1927: Walker, Clifford and Peck, Charlotte M - W.Derby 8b 849
Births Jun 1904: Peck, Charlotte Mabel - W Derby 8b 672

Death: CHARLOTTE MABEL WALKER
Birth: 26 Apr 1904
Death year/qtr: 1988 / Sep
District: BIRKENHEAD; Register number 888; Volume 37; Page 737

Death: CLIFFORD, WALKER
Birth year: 1900
Age: 62
Death year/qtr: 1962 / Dec
District: BIRKENHEAD; Volume 10A; Page 4

Possible births:
Births Mar 1929: Walker, Brian C [Peck] - W.Derby 8b 1104
Births Mar 1935: Walker, William K [Peck] - Liverpool N. 8b 998

Worth a shot at locating local descendants? Who registered the mother's death in 1988?

And if only we could confirm what the boys' middle names are without buying a birth cert... :(

Hi All,

This has now been concluded and all items have been returned to the family, I'd like to thank all who have contributed. A special thanks to DS, who helped me privately, we have Walker family members who are highly delighted to have all, especially the photographs, retuned to them.
