Alfred Fletcher, wounded WW1

Some help from the forum, please. My grandfather Alfred Fletcher, who I did not know, was supposedly wounded during the latter part of World War 1. He was a private then a sergeant in the King's 5th Liverpool regiment. I have two numbers for him, which is somewhat confusing. The numbers are 202548 and 375701. Maybe somebody could clarify why there are two numbers for him and would there be records of him being wounded in the conflict?

Where have you got two numbers from - I always thought that both numbers were quoted on the Medal Card, but perhaps not.

He appears in my Wounded Rank and File twice.

Hi Gareth,

I believe we have corresponded before in 2011. I do not have a note what I sent you then. However turning to your question about the two numbers 202548 was issued to him for his service during the Great War and No 3757081 (vice 375701) was issued to him when he re-enlisted after the war on 30/6/20. Seven fig numbers were only issued after the end of WW1.

He was wounded in action 9/4/18 (shrapnel wound right leg) while serving with 1/6 KLR and admitted to 18 Casualty Clearing Station. Admitted 13 General Hospital 10/4/18. Evacuated to the UK on the Hospital Ship Brighton 14/4/18.

I tried a few years ago to try and find out a about Alfred and drew a blank.
I believe I actually spoke to Katie around that time but my timing was awful as the library was being overhauled so it was not easy to go through the records.
I was also advised that Alfred's records may have been destroyed in the blitz.
So I am so pleased to have something.
Promenade, you say we had contact in 20011. It was certainly around that time I was looking into his military past. Could you have used a different name then? Anyway nice to bump into you again.
Is there any way I could find out where AF served during the war, sorry I am being greedy now.
For the record Alfred became a coal merchant and lived at Rawlinson Rd. He died aged 65 in 1948.

If your cousin is Robert B...ey I sent a comprehensive 17-page write up on Alfred Fletcher, complete with images, to him in December 2011 via an intermediary - I did not get an acknowledgement - it may be that he did not get the file. Robert stated in his original email that he was working in concert with his cousin (was this you?). If you are his cousin can I suggest you get in touch with him.

Unfortunately I am about to receive an avalanche of WW1 queries following my recent visits to Liverpool and thus do not have the time to recreate the above document.

Hi Promenade.
Thank you for your update. I was somewhat taken aback by the contents. Yes Robert B is my cousin, I only found him about four years ago as my Family split when I was very young. And yes we were working together re Alfred Fletcher. For a very good reason. His daughter Stella B was still alive at that time, She was 93, and desperately wanted to know about her Dads exploits during WW1, so time was of the essence. So I find it inconceivable that he would not have shared that information pack with us all.
I do believe that you did send something and 17 pages with images is a serious piece of work. Could the intermediary have got things wrong in all this? Sadly Stella Died a couple of years ago. I have not contacted Rob about this as yet, hoping that you might pull something out of the hat.

Just to update you. I had a word with Robert B. And he assures me that he did not receive your documents. He told that he was quite disappointed, as was I, but these things happen. We would both like to thank you for your efforts at that time.
One thing that you or Katie might help with. What was the details of the first wounding?

PPS I have a note stating casualty list/report, page 487 does, this mean anything relevant to Alfred

Some help needed to finish off my original thread re Alfred Fletcher posted a few weeks ago.
Katie kindly supplied me with the dates of two wounding's for Alfred, one 1917 and the other 1918. Promenade kindly gave me details of the latter wounding so it is the earlier incident I am trying to clarify.
The information Katie supplied was as follows.
Wounded circa 15th September 1917
Kings Liverpool Regiment.
Private.
Alfred.
202548.
Fletcher.
Liverpool.
What I would like to know, if possible, is how he was wounded and where?
Alfred when alive told his family he had been shot during the war but nobody knows for sure

I suspect Promenade had the War Diary for that Regiment and date from which he was able to give you the details. These diaries are available from the National Archives site.
