here is the SWIFT family in 1901 at 6 Holmes Lane, Litherland:
name age birthplace
William Swift 39 b. Halsall
Catherine Swift 39 b. Bootle
James Swift 17 b. Aughton
David Swift 14 b. Aughton
Ellen Swift 13 b. Aughton
William Swift 11 b. Litherland
Charlotte Swift 8 b. Litherland
Annie Swift 2 b. Seaforth
struggling to find them in 1891 on ancestry - can anyone help - thank you!
I'm sorry to say that it has always been known that there are areas of 1891 missing from the census, around the Bootle area was one in particular.
Just putting Swift into the surname and Litherland into the keyword produces a very short list of only 12 names.
Using an address search doesn't produce anything other than the 1901 census.
I hope somebody else may be able to prove me wrong but I think they may be missing from the 1891 census due to missing pages.

They were at 67 Langton Road in March 1890 when William and Ellen were baptised at Bootle St Leonards , but that property seems to be vacant in the 1891 census.
There's another Ellen Swift baptised at the same time, same address, different birthdate, daughter of John Swift, blacksmith, and Euphemia Martin.
