Hi Gareth,
The 1911 census has Robert Henry Fletcher living with Elizabeth A, we know Elizabeth A was born in India, 1874.
We can't find a marriage for the above couple, we now know it would have been an illegal marriage.

In 1897, Elizabeth Ann Keepe married Daniel Singleton Ames, Liverpool, following census information, Elizabeth A Ames born India.

The initial connecting factor, Elizabeth A Keepe/Ames/Fletcher born India, 1874.

Events that allow Elizabeth Ann to live with Robert Henry in 1911 appears to be her husband Daniel S Singleton was living with Ethel Garner, who he eventually marries in 1915.

Elizabeth Ann and Daniel S had children, one of those children, a son William Ames was killed 1918, his mothers address at the time of his death was 7 Rendal Street, Liverpool.

In the 1938 Liverpool directory, Robert Henry Fletcher, Drayman, was living at 7 Rendal Street.

I think the couple, Robert Henry/ Elizabeth Ann had 3 children, the one Alex found.

Ellen Fletcher, 1909, West Derby, 8b 350.
Edna A Fletcher, mother, Keepe, 1914, West Derby, 8b 991.

The 1911 census is confusing and not filled in completely by Elizabeth's hand, I believe the son was registered, Robert J Fletcher, 1911, June Qtr, West Derby, 8b 471.

I agree with Bertieone's résumé of the confusing Family history.

There are a number of trees on Ancestry with the Ames children in them and it might be worth contacting them to hear their understanding. I did note that none of them had the children or parents in 1911.

Just another thought I wonder if there are any records for the Industrial school to see why the 3 boys were admitted?

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have been re reading and trying to digest all that has been said. I fully agree with Bert's summing up of things and I note that Hilary concurs, so that's good enough for me. I also note the earlier input from Alex and DS, thank you all.
That census record caused all sorts of problems. Although Elizabeth made a bit of a hash of things, the enumerator didn't help matters, you know, calling Robert Richard, that sort of thing. Still got there in the end.
So it looks like Elizabeth Ames took the name Fletcher and her husband went off and married someone else whilst they were still married, hope i have that right. what a tangled web. So do I still have a Robert J Fletcher to look for?
One last question what was the industrial school? Hilary I will have look on ancestry re the Ames connection.
