Thank you for you advice on the name LAABS Danish, Dutch would I'm sure fit in well with a sea-faring man.

I have to say that I'm sorry not to have had any result with either Anfield or West Derby Cemeteries, nor obituaries in the local newspaper for the burial of Jane Mallon. If she was buried in a local churchyard there may be too many to be able to check all of these.

From where she would have been living does anybody have any other suggestions?

Hi Mary,

That Jane wasn't the mother of Margaret Mellon/Mallon, her husband was called James. Our Margaret's father was called Michael according to the 1865 marriage certificate.

I suppose it might have helped anyway if it had been a private grave, but seems I might as well suspend the search for now.

Dear Mary

Yes, therefore it would be great if something is to be find either on Michael Mellon (Mallon, Mallen, Mellen) or the aunt to Margaret, Catherine Mellon (Mallon, Mallen, Mellen), she is 28 in the Liverpool Census 1871.

Just in case it is of any interest, Blue has recently posted a link to British History Online maps http://www.british-history.ac.uk/os-1-t ... ool/071/61 and I noticed that the digitisation was sponsored by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, probably coincidence.

Dear all friends

By the way, thank you Mary - that is funny it is a Mellon who has provided the maps.

Help wanted, please.

Since I am going to make a book about Mellon in Denmark, I need to know more about the life in Ireland before Margaret left (between 1861-1864) as a young girl together with her 6 year older aunt, for Liverpool. How was the situation in Ireland? How did they get to Liverpool, and what was the price to get there?
How would it have been to get to Liverpool in those days? Being poor, coming from Ireland.

I have got so much help, and we have hid a brick wall, difficult to know more about where in Ireland Margaret came from, I only know her father was Michale Mellon, draper, and she was RC. These information has Blue very kindly posted in this forum.

Hallo,

the post of 5/8/15, you see the baptisme of Helenor (Ellen) Maria Morrison, and you see the 'Matrina fuit' , and I guess this is a family member. The name is Allen, perhaps Dorah Allen?

Margaret and James call a son, born in Denmark Edward Allen Morrison (Mogensen).

This could be on Margarets mothers side, i guess.
Can anybody help me to find this woman in Liverpool - 1861-1881..., please

The Godmother ('Matrina fuit') appears to be called Honora(h) Allen (this name is often shortened to Norah). There was an Irish born couple called Patrick Allen (Labourer) and his wife Honora(h) Allen living at 15 Carpenter's Row Liverpool on the 1871 Census. This address is near to where the Mellon family lived. This couple were living at 17 Whitley Street on the 1861 Census, on the other side of Liverpool. No children on the census records or in the RC church records.

Dear Blue
I think it must be family - perhaps an aunt, are you able to see how old they are, or is that not on these Census informations?
Perhaps their children has left the home in 1861?

Don't take too much for granted, I've often found neighbours were godparents to neighbours children, especially if they were all Irish and there may have been no other family members nearby, that doesn't mean you shouldn't investigate to see if there's a connection.

Thanks Blue

When you have time, if you can see who are the Matrine fuit on Maria Anna (Polly) and Peter - the three other children, that would be great, please.

I don't think it would be worthwhile researching all the godparents they are more likely to be local Liverpool-Irish people not related to the family. If you want to investigate further you could get a trial subscription to Ancestry but be sure to cancel it before it ends as it then assumes you want to have a full subscription so cancel so no money is charged.

I've just noticed this post about Ancestry's free weekend this weekend. All you need to do is register and you can do some free research:-

Great Blue, I have done that.

I see Mellon from Ireland, from Wixford/Wexford, Silgo (?) and Kilkenny - Perhaps I could somehow take a look a those Irish towns?

Is that the 14-Day Free trial or are you going to use the free weekend? If it's the 14-Day Trial be sure to cancel it 3 or 4 days before the end to be safe if you don't want to be charged the full subscription which will commence after the 14 days if you don't cancel it.
