Microfilms go digital
FamilySearch's extensive library of microfilms are going digital.
Family historians have millions of reasons to be grateful for the work of FamilySearch, including its indexes and Family History Centres.
A growing number of the records that it held previously only on microfilm have been digitised by FamilySearch.
It is easy to discover the English collections available in the new format: https://familysearch.org/search/collect ... on/1986340.
You need to click the "Show all 54 Collections" button on that page to unfold the list of indexed records. For some sources, leads point to other sites which, unlike FamilySearch itself, may charge for information.
Newly digitised records will be added all the time, so it’s best to check back frequently.

A recent article at FamilySearch Blog - https://familysearch.org/blog/en/news-f ... -computer/ gives further details about how the free online image service is being extended, both in quantity and quality.

I think it's still early days. Looking through Family Search for England there doesn't appear to be any brand new images on the site itself yet. Here are some collections with images on the site that have been added this year:-

It would be useful if Family Search digitise their microfilms of Liverpool's council cemeteries. I notice they have the following:-

Allerton: 1909-1972
Anfield: CE 1863-1973, GEN 1863-1968 & RC 1863-1967
Everton: CE 1880-1967 & RC 1880-1928
Kirkdale: 1882-1961
West Derby: CE 1884-1975, GEN 1884-1967 & RC 1884-1964

They also have burial records for St James' Cemetery and inscriptions for various graveyards.
