I have a report in the Liverpool Echo 24th Feb 1916 of a Canadian Soldier who was reported to have Died of wounds in a Liverpool Hospital:-
Regimental Serjeant Major Duke, whi in his youth resided with his step-father, Mr. John May in Birkenhead, at several addresses, the last being in Bright Street, and who went to Canada 8 years ago, is reported to have died of wounds in a Liverpool hospital. He enlisted in the 16th Light Horsr (Canadians). Any information will gratefully be received by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Corden, 39, Lord Street, Birkenhead, or his aunt Mrs. Davies, 117, Bentinck Street, Birkenhead.
I can't find any entry on CWGC for anyone called Duke who served with the Canadians. Nor can I find a death registration.
This one is a bit confusing.
I located a marriage of a Robert Henry Duke to Margaret Anne Corden in 1902 in Birkenhead. According to a entry on Ancestry Robert's father is recorded as being John Alexander Duke
Robert Henry appears on a Liverpool Crew list in 1902 as Robert Henry Duke May.
There was a marriage in Birkenhead of a John May to a Ellen Jane Duke in 1886. I think I have located them on the 1891 census in Bury

If the soldier called Duke was the Step-son of John May this would out his birth date as being prior to the birth of Robert Henry Duke.
Any thoughts and help on this one.

No better result from me. I tried Geoff's search engine using minimum input and CWGC with various options, but nothing came up.
LATER
Private Robert Duke, 159516, 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles (2nd Central Ontario Regt), died on 23 Feb 1917 and was buried at Etaples. Born 9/3/77, parents in Armagh.
This is the nearest I could find.

Re: Regimental Serjeant Major Duke-Canadians
Robert Henry has given his fathers name as John Alexander Duke,
John May's full name is John Alexander Hicks May, Bn, 1864, Birkenhead.
John May's full name is John Alexander Hicks May, Bn, 1864, Birkenhead.

Re: Regimental Serjeant Major Duke-Canadians
I thought it may have been Robert Henry Duke who died, no record on CWGC. The report says Mrs. Corden sister-in-law. The Echo could have made a mistake and it should read mother in law.
