Death record for Edward Davies abt 1804

Post by Gwebb1 »

Hi all.

I wonder if anyone can ferret out a death record for Edward Davies, husband of Mary Davies nee Percival?

I have found the baptism record of their last child, Edward, baptised at St Nicholas's on 1st April 1804, having been born 4th March. The record says he was the son of the late Edward Davies, labourer, and the address given in Preston Street. Hence, I am reckoning the father died 1803/1804.
Records tended to show Edward Snr as being a labourer although baptism records for some of his children in the 1790s refer to him as being a brewer.

I'm hoping his burial records will help me find when he was born - I have a possible birth and baptism in 1764 which gives a Robert Davies as the father and he is described as a brewer but obviously I need more evidence.

As usual, any help will be much appreciated.

Glen

Thanks, Blue. You are spot on - this is the guy I was looking for and makes me think the 1764 birth entry could be the right one.

However, could you tell me where you found the Bishop's Transcript record? I can't find it on the Ancestry records.

Also, have you, or any of the other members, come across a birth record for Edward Davies, born 28 Nov 1764, bpt. 9th Dec at St Peters, son of Robert Davies, brewer?
I have found this reference on the LANopc but nowhere else.

G

The Bishop's Transcripts records are part of a Lancashire collection on Ancestry I usually access those records via Card Catalogue searching for Lancashire. Here is a search page for the specific Lancashire batch of records that includes the burial:-

Thanks, Blue. How stupid of me - I wasn't going through the Lancashire window. Got the baptism record now.

I'll try finding out when Edward's wife, Mary (nee Percival) died next and see if I can then edge a bit further back to her birth. I know Edward and Mary married at St Peter's in 1789. This was the same church as the 1764 baptism - more circumstantial evidence that I may have found the right one.
I have also traced the baptism records for 6 children.

Do feel free to advise if you happen to come across any other relevant records!

Regards,
Glen
