I have been looking at Ancestry's version of the Bishop's Transcripts for St Peter's covering 1822 (I think). The original register does not seem to be online for that year.
The entry for James Simpson Ellis is at no. 1014, with a birth date shown on the image as 14 Aug 1807 or perhaps 1809, but the 'chr' date seems to be 14 July 1822. However, the Ancestry heading on the frame of the image gives the years covered as '1810-1812'.
James's father was an army officer which may account for the late date for the baptism.
My main query is the year of James's birth, if anyone could kindly look at the image and give a view.
The second part is the Ancestry transcript, giving the year of baptism as 1810. Am I adrift in reading the image?
A third query is about the army: were there Dragoon Guards stationed in Liverpool in 1822?
Many thanks for the usual help we get here!
ADDED: FMP has date of baptism as 24 July 1810, but no image..

Re: St Peter's, Liverpool baptisms, BTs help please
Hi Daggers,
I see it as a 9, there's a version of how he does his 7s below.
Year 1810, I can see the confusion concerning 22, next page has 29, etc, year 1810.

Secondly I'd agree with Bert that it's a lazy 9 in the entry. The Lancs OPC transcript does not indicate whether it is a Bishop's Transcript or not I would assume it is taken from the original transcript so supports it being a 9 rather than a 7.

Thanks very much for those comments. What could the '22' mean, I wonder?

Re: St Peter's, Liverpool baptisms, BTs help please
More thanks, Bert and Blue.
The regiment of James senior needs more research, as he seems to have moved from one to another, as was the case at that time. He was with 5th Dragoon Guards when killed in action in Spain in 1812, but may have been with a different regiment when James junior was christened in Liverpool. Dragoons and Dragoon Guards were different species, and proud of their differences!
Too late for more now.
