Looking at your posts David I think you have your John Richard mixed up with my JRB.
Yes he lived in Wales,Johnstown Rhosllanerchurgog, and was killed in WW1.
His father was William Francis Ballard a tinsmith born in Liverpool. His mother was Eliza Winnifred Harding,1859 Liverpool.
William Fs father was William Ballard also a tinsmith born in Ireland 1814/15 and it looks like he was a Romany. His wife was Jane ??? 1820 Jersey.

I'm afraid David didn't become a member of the Society, nor did he remain a member of the Forum, he is unlikely to pick up your posts unfortunately.

However, your information may well prove that my advice re step by step evidence of research is definitely what is needed if you aren't to go wrong.

Hello
My grt grandad was john richard ballard who died on the somme. My grandmother was eleanor ballard. My gr gr gr grandfather was william ballard born ireland and married to jane dawson of jersey. Why do you say he was a romany??
I know he was a tinsmith but he is more likely to be a protestant of english descent with an english name like ballard which is rare in ireland and not an anglicised irish name. Are we related
