1904 Orphans

Hi all, I am new to this site so bare with me.

I am trying to locate some history about my Great Grandfather. My Nan has no memory of him and was told that he was admitted to a mental hospital - of which I have found details..
I have continued to look in to his family history as ideally Nan would like a photograph to see what he looks like. I have found that his Mother died in 1903 and his Father in 1904 which would have left him and 4 young siblings as orphans - this was in the Everton area of Liverpool. I have tried looking at the 1911 census of his older brothers and sisters - but they are not listed.
Does anyone know where else i could look or where they might have been sent?
Her Dad was born James Hodge in 1899 yet his lancaster Moor records have him as John J Hodge - unsure what's happened there.. ANY help at all would be gratefully received. Thanks

From the parents marriage could you take a guess at the religion of the children? It could well be that they might be listed in the Father Nugent documents held at the Liverpool Record Office, who might do a brief search for you.

WOW! Thank you. I guess that if I go through the whole census at that place then I may be able to find John James? Or James Hodge (as he was born). Would they have been split up?

Where would I find this? I am a bit sad that it's not John J Hodge.

I have found a record which shows he may possibly have been at St edwards School (orphanage). They seemed to have got his birthdate wrong - having him listed as 1901 - but this would correlate with the death certificate I have found.

It would be my Nans dream to find a picture of her Father - but John J Hodge is proving difficult! Xx

Yes I found this Bert. I have saved it as I think that may well be him. I am just lost as to where he would have been before then and where he went after. X

Any experts - or anyone know more than me that can help...... I am searching for my Great Grandfather for the benefit of my Nan - who has no memory of him and was told very little about him. Ideally I'd like to find a photo (although that may be going a bit far). His details are as follow

Born James Hodge on 17/05/1899 although census have him down as being born in 1901 and also that his name was John J Hodge.
Nan was told he was admitted to Lancaster Moor and I have found records that prove he was in 1943 - where he died in 1966.

His parents died in1904 and from there I can't find where he nor his siblings went - although I have found a record for St Edwards Orphanage. Nan was told he was in the war working on the submarines - but that is all too confusing for me to look in to.

Can anyone help? I have paid for FMP but my log in isn't working and I am at a loss on ancestry. Any further information needed then please shout.

James Hodge born 1899 was baptised at St. Winifred, Bootle.

John James Hodge was re baptised at St. Alban R/C in 1905, his brother was also baptised on the same day. Possibly Liverpool Workhouse records could help to find out what happened to the children.

This makes me think that they were christened when at an orphanage... the Dad died in 1904 and mum before that?

Nope in 1901 there were two families
William (29), Marine Stoker born Scotland & Elizabeth (28) Ferguson and step children Lucy (12) Drummond and Alice (1) Drummond, Conlies? McCann (22) Marine Stoker, Bernard (19) McCann, Ship Boiler Scaler, James (16) McCann, Ship Boiler Scaler, all born Liverpool, with Boarders William Quenia? Widr 56, Thomas Maguire 49 S both dock labourers, and James Warren, 36 S, Ship Boiler Scaler, all born Ireland.
Separate household, same address
Thomas (53) Morgan Dock Labourer and wife Mary (42)Ginger Beer Maker, and children Bartholomew 11, Thomas 9, Bridget 8, James 2. All seem to be born Ireland except possibly Mary, Liverpool.

Do any of these names mean anything?
