Help finding grave
Help finding grave
Morning all. One of my relatives is buried in Ford cemetery with 4 others. He died in 1962. His wife however, who died in December 1997 is not in the plot - maybe because it was full. I notice that the burial records on Ancestry only go up to 1981. Any way of finding where she is?
Her name is Mary Ann McCabe and she was 81 when she died (give or take a year).
Many thanks as ever, John

Re: Help finding grave
I think you would need to check some burial registers at the Liverpool Record Office, it could be that his religion was RC but hers wasn't and so is in a C of E area in say, Anfield or West Derby, or after so many years perhaps cremation was chosen instead as it became more popular.
Have you actually spoken with Ford to check who is in the plot? as I don't know even how recent the records go up to in the RO.
Your alternative is to give the exact date to Allerton Cemetery Lodge and ask them, a request that could prove pricey.

Re: Help finding grave
Thanks Mary, I know who else is in the grave from about a year ago. The grave is mainly McCabes, as was the lady who died in 1997 (she was a Catholic, maiden name McCabe). Her husband was William Duncan, who is in the grave with the McCabes. I don't know his religion. They were married in West Derby in 1947 but I don't know the church. Lancashirebmd just has South Sefton Register Office or Registrar Attended.
Its not a big deal, just tying up loose ends. Thanks,.

That confirms the possibility that either both were RC or one was and the other likely converted.JohnnyO wrote:Lancashirebmd just has South Sefton Register Office or Registrar Attended.
Strange that he was buried in the in-laws grave and she wasn't, but I would wonder about a cremation, after such a length of time following her husband.

Re: Help finding grave
I might have to go to Crosby library and look up the 1939 register to see where Richard Duncan was and who with. Funnily enough Mary there is another of my graves in Ford cemetery, the Keeleys; a husband and wife, two children (my maternal grandmother being one of them) and a guy called Richard Delaney buried in 1934 aged 80 who isn't even in my tree! An Elizabeth Delaney married a Keeley in 1868, so presumably Richard is related. Elizabeth's father was James, as I have the marriage certificate, as I thought it might have been him.MaryA wrote:That confirms the possibility that either both were RC or one was and the other likely converted.JohnnyO wrote:Lancashirebmd just has South Sefton Register Office or Registrar Attended.

We could perhaps help if you gave us the dob details and where you expect him to be?JohnnyO wrote:

Is this another search for the crew on here or do you want to get your own teeth into it?JohnnyO wrote:

Re: Help finding grave
When trying to find a grave, my first port of call is always a look in the local newspaper, in this case the Liverpool Echo. If there is a death announcement, the place and date of the funeral should be listed.
Re: Help finding grave
John,
Not sure what you need?
William Duncan's mothers maiden name was, Dolan, as was Alexander Duncan's,
James Duncan married Ellen Dolan, 1893, Seaforth, St Thomas, ( on Anc)

Re: Help finding grave
Thanks Karen, I have had a look on FMP for newspaper articles or announcements, but nothing. I might need to go to the libray and look through the archives, although only knowing the quarter of death, it may take a whileKaren wrote:When trying to find a grave, my first port of call is always a look in the local newspaper, in this case the Liverpool Echo. Re: Help finding grave
Hi Mary, many thanks for that. Don't think that the first list is the correct family, but the second certainly is. Jessie was born in 1904 (married twice by the looks of it?). Wonder where the parents were then?MaryA wrote:Your answer, which I've taken from your post that I've split to make two separate queries. Not sure this would be the correct manJohnnyO wrote:William Duncan was born October 1911. Re: Help finding grave
Thanks as ever for the posts Bert. I have managed to get about 10 more Duncans in my tree, and cross referencing those with Mary's post confims that some, but not the parents, were in Roxburgh Street in 1939. Still need to find Mary Jane's death details in 1979 now. I wonder if she remarried after William's death? There are a few entries in FreeBMD for a Mary Duncan marrying in Liverpool in 1936,1937, 1941 and a couple in Wallasey about the same time.Bertieone wrote:John Duncan (Mason) married Anne Shaw, 1863, Bevington, St Albans. Re: Help finding grave
I'm just thinking; if Mary Ann Duncan did remarry, then she would not be a Duncan at the time of death, so I am probably barking up the wrong tree with my fact that she died in 1997

Re: Help finding grave
Narrow the marriages down, it might be possible to check some out to see who the father was.

Re: Help finding grave
Thanks for the tip Mary, but I think I have lost the plot, too much time spent staring at gravestones! I was posting rubbish, and getting myself confused (and you good people!) with the Delaneys and Duncans
. It was Richard Delaney who died in 1934, not William Duncan. He died in 1979 when Mary Jane was aged 62, so maybe she did not marry again, and it was her death recording in 1997. Back to the drawing board....
