Ahh thanks Katie
I reckon there's always a clue somewhere, just never give up.
That'll be a good do Lee. I'm a Davidson myself and believe our ancestral home Tulloch Castle is now a hotel, perhaps we could hold it there

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Hi everyone, just thought I'd drop a line to let you all know I'm still alive
, been busy with other things so not done much as far as my tree is concerned although I got my Grandad's birth certificate,(well I hope it's his
), but the only new facts I got from it was that it seemed as though his mother, Grace Carruthers, couldn't write as there is an x on it as her mark, and an address which as far as I can make out is 7 India Street but not been able to figure out where this was,(although near China Street would be a good guess). I am going to Plymouth during the week to see the War Memorial which has one of my Dad's brothers name on it, is there anything I can do for anybody while I'm there?
Hope you are all well.
Lee

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Hello Lee,
India Street was in Everton...
This from an 1891 Census Street search...
Address: India Street, Everton, Liverpool
Reg. District: West Derby
Sub District: South Everton
Parish: Everton
Enum. District: 15
Ecclesiastical District: St Peter
City/Municipal Borough: Liverpool
And it is still there in 1901 and 1911.
Haven't found it on a map yet but from the census pages it seems to be very close to Roscommon Street which ran from Great Homer Street up to Netherfield Road South. There's an un-named street on which St Peter's is located that runs parallel to Roscommon Street up to Langrove Street. I have lined it in yellow on this map....

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Thanks Simone, I hope to get stuck in again soon just need to get some jobs out of the way 1st. Nice one Dickiesam, slap bang in the middle of the right area as well,(I thought it must be near China Street), seems they lived in a fair few streets that were next to each other, very interesting, or was that a common occurrence in those days? Ok well as I said I will hopefully be re-starting my search again soon & will no doubt need some assistance from you fine people,(hopefully flattery will get me everywhere
).

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Had a great day in Plymouth walking around The Hoe & Barbican, didn't realise it was such a lovely place, mind you the sun helped haha. The war memorials were very impressive & it was good to see my uncle Peter Murray's name on the plaque 'in person' so to speak, also had a look at the registers they hold there for everyone killed in action. I've ordered 2 books about the Empress of Ireland as my Grandad served on her and in fact was saved from her when she went down, apparently he's mentioned in a book so hopefully it will be one of those I get.

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Wow I totally forgot how much help I had on this thread!, lots of info to mull over and try to make sense of.........because of my mental issues I forget things easily and really only thought I had a relatively small amount of details but looking through this and notes I made back then there is loads.............I may look for someone who can help me with it all down here in Devon and pay them.

Always good to revisit old research and there will probably be more related online now than there was back then. Good luck with it.

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Thanks Mary, spent the last few hours transferring my notes to my laptop, I noticed there seems to be some discrepancies in the Census reports way back, the names are correct but the ages don't add up sometimes, ie someone who was say 10 in 1901 could be down as 25 in 1910. Right time for a breather then I'll try and make sense of some of it, certainly some possible eye opening info I have though.

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
I'm just trying to work out how to use this Lancashire BMD site, I'm putting information I already have in the search boxes but seem to keep coming up with no results or confusing results, for instance Mary Murray dob 1915 I have a reference number of WD 8b 869, now I guess this means her birth was registered at West Derby?, using that info I get back 5 results, 2 with sub districts Exchange, 2 with Kirkdale and 1 Toxteth Park SW, there are then 5 different reference numbers, is this correct, I mean will there be a WD reference then a sub district reference, I'm figuring one of the Kirkdale entries will be right as they lived Netherfield Road way.

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
I've just had my 1st exciting find, an 1890's map of the Netherfield Road area, I wanted to find Cornwall Street where my dad was born but was really pleased to see other roads known to me all pretty much next to each other, Prince Edwin Lane where my granddad lived, (still not sure who with at the moment but he definitely lived there at the date of his marriage in 1910), Prince Edwin Street where granddad lived with his parents and siblings in 1901, Clifton Street where my nin lived with her parents and siblings, (I originally though it was the Clifton Street in Garston but my Uncle insisted it was near Cornwall Street which makes a lot of sense when you think of how nin and granddad met, they were practically neighbours), and Cornwall Street itself where nin and granddad obviously set up home after marrying. Need to find where Robsart Street was circa 1901, Cavendish Street 1911 and Rose Vale 1881 now. Exciting this family research lark isn't it.
Edit - I've now found where Robsart Street and Rose Vale are/where, again within minutes walking distance of the other streets mentioned.

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
Ah got it now, I didn't realise there was a separate West Derby section, just assumed it would come under Liverpool, thank you.

Re: The Murray Family of Liverpool
If the name isn't too common it's often easier to just choose Lancashire in the lower box rather than either West Derby or Liverpool as there would be a fine line between the two Registration Districts.
As for LancashireBMD, this database is compiled from local registers and so often gives a little more information, such as Kirkdale or Toxteth Park as you have found.
Glad to see you are getting back into the swing of things.
