If your confident the 1969 death is correct, you need sight of the 1883 birth certificate to confirm date of birth.

PDF cost £7 from the GRO,

Unfortunately, PDF death certs are only available up to 1957.

Yes just looked on GRO but it won't let me go past 1957 plus his birth isn't registered on there. A death certificate won't give me his parents details will it.

For a death certificate, you need to go to the Place an Order section on the GRO, enter the details, unlikely to have any of his parents names on it, given his age.

The GRO birth registration don't give Birth date, only the Qtr and year the birth was registered, birth date will be on the birth cert, etc.

The only Peter Murray coming up for 1883 +/- 2 years if for one from 1885 with mothers surname O'Toole, can't find his birth registered on Ancestry or other sites either only his death so maybe he didn't have a birth cert. I have been in touch with someone on Ancestry who's wife's father was the grandson of Patrick and Grace so I'm waiting to see if she remembers my granddad or any other of her dads family, meanwhile I think I'll go down the root of trying to connect Graces other sons with my granddad.

That one is July/August/September which is the worrying part as I'm pretty sure of the date 28th June.................has to be worth a go though

Graces' parents are who I thought they would be, John Carruthers & Helen Glover.

Patrick's mother possibly, Sawer, not certain though.

Bert I've just heard back from Scotland's People and they reckon the surname is either Somers, (which someone else suggested), or Sawer, still waiting on my pdf from gro.

Birth just one day out from one of his seaman's records.

The birth date given at his death registration depends on, if the informant knew exactly his date of birth.

I've also known people living their whole lives with the incorrect birthday, a couple of days out - can't imagine how that came about but I think we have to accept it sometimes.
