34, Gascoyne Street

Post by lynne99 »

Hi, my mother's family lived at this address from 1874 until it was demolished in 1940 ish. I have a photo of my Great Grand mother standing out side their shop, which I believe was at this address. The electoral roll for 1885 says it was a house and shop. Could anybody help me find out more about this eg what did it sell?. Thank you.

It's not listed as a shop in any of my directories and as I'm sure you have seen from the 1881-1911 censuses, none of the Harrisons seem to have been shopkeepers.

However there was a grocer living there in 1871.

Thanks for that. I am sure they kept a shop at that address or somewhere in the street. When Mary Jane Harrison Nee Howard died in 1935, probate was granted in 1939 to William Osborne , Shopkeeper's Manager. Oh for a time machine :D Thanks Lynne
